What head phones do you recommend for the Yamaha P-125?

Thank you for responding. I would like to buy head phones for a Yamaha P-125 that cost less than $200 if possible. I will consider investing more if needed.

There are numerous threads on the Digital forum about headphones so you will have better luck there.

I suggest looking at Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm. They are very comfortable and at your price range.

I received the following when I purchased my recent grand. I've had Sennheiser before and I think these Yamahas are a lot better. They are also a lot more comfortable.

Got an old Bose noise cancellation headphone as a Christmas gift years ago that still works. Don't think you buy these things in a discount store and expect high quality. For the purpose of quiet practice, the cheap ones does the job.

The best headphones for a digital are the same as the best ones for your hi-fi sound source, or MP3 player (if you don't have hi-fi). And you can be sure that if your headphones get excellent sound from a piano recording or YT via your computer or cell phone, you'll get the same from your digital. Just make sure that you can use wires - Bluetooth-only connection is useless for digital pianos, for obvious reasons.

In my experience, having owned over the decades some twenty pairs of headphones and earphones, you get what you pay for, up to about USD350.

The ones I'm using with my digital (and hi-fi and laptop) - and have been for over five years - are the Sennheiser HD600, which are semi-open-backed and have a neutral sound spectrum which means that I get a natural piano sound.

Incidentally, sometimes I wish I could use my Apple AirPods Pro with my digital, just because (apart from its excellent neutral sound) with them in my ears, I can easily forget I'm wearing them, but of course they only work via Bluetooth......

I second the comment for the DT 770. That’s been one of my all time favorites.

I've sent stuff back costing more than that. I settled for a pair of Stagg SHP2300 which cost £25 from the music shop, merely because they were the only ones tryable. I got a second pair for £17 online. They give a decent response without the heavy bass one sometimes encounters, particularly when playing a Roland.
Coorect me if I'm wrong, guys, but I don't think you'll get a set of 'phones sounding the same as the piano does with its speakers. They may sound considerably better, which is unfortunate in a way. The damn things do not have tone controls on them.

I have a Yamaha P-125 for silent practice at night (after my 6yo goes to sleep) and use the headphones below (Sony MDR 7506). They're all in all a great pair of headphones (over 14K Amazon reviews, 4.8 average), and I think they work well with the P-125. Plus, they cost under $100:

on a thread I found here there was a couple of recommendations for the Samson Studio Headphones, (SR850). I bought them for around $60 AUD and most impressed, absolute bargain and just right for my needs.

These $59,000 Sennheisers ought to do the job.

On the recommendation of my Sweetwater sales rep, I got the DT 770 Pro (80 ohms) as well and I am very happy with it. Well within budget, great sound, comfortable, and made to last.

First of all you should know if you want an open-back or a closed-back headphone. There are pro and cons for each of them and it depends to your situation what is best. E.g. if you want to practice silently with a partner in the same room: closed back. If you are alone in the room but you want to hear the phone is ringing: open back.

open-back:
You can hear what is around you in the room.
Others in the room can hear what you are hearing.
Typically not as loud as a closed back headphone as much of the sound is escaping to the room.
Typically a wider sound-stage.


closed-back:
You hardly can hear what is around you in the room, you are isolated.
Others in the room can't hear what you are hearing.
Typically louder as an open back headphone as all the sound goes towards your ear.
Typically a more narrow sound-stage.


(The mentioned DT770-pro is a closed back. A good one as I can confirm, also)
