I have narrowed my search and decided on a used Estonia L190. I found two of them at local dealers. A 2011 and a 2007.

The local dealer has the 2011. I've been to the store several times in my piano search, and he's been quite helpful. An out of state dealer has the 2007.

I'd be happy to spend a little bit more for the newer model. And I'd love to give the business to the local guy. But he is quite a bit more expensive. I'm already stretching my budget to afford this piano. I'm wondering if the newer model is really worth that much more.

I know a bunch of people here have Estonia pianos. Can you comment?

Thanks!
Peter

I think the next major revision of them after 2005 was in 2012 or 2013, after the 225 and 210 models came out. So I think the '07 and '11 might be very similar, though I haven't played any L190s so don't know.

It's probably going to be the standard answer of 'play the piano, and buy it if you like it'.

You could try contacting the owner of the company, Indrek Laul.

I sure don’t know what changes were made through the years to the Estonias. One of the things that leaped out to my eyes is how beautifully made my L190 is, especially when I open the lid and look at the gleaming gold plate, the strings and the soundboard. When I sat down to play it, the voice is clean and lyrical. The action is as smooth as butter. Of course you must try them both. I believe the wear and maintenance on each may make more difference to you than any advancements or refinements in the making of the Estonias between 2007 and 2011. So the standard advice applies. If it were me, I’d check the out of town 2007 first. Then check the local 2011 at the higher price. The pianos themselves will tell you why they’re being sold at different prices.

I did play them both. They both play beautifully.
The more expensive one is at a much nicer showroom, and is prepped better.
But the cheaper one is very nice too.

You need to find out what improvements, if any were made between the production of the two pianos and decide if they make enough difference to justify the difference in price. How do you know the more expensive one is prepped better?

Along with Pianoloverus’s advice, I would ask my trusted technician to check both and see if they could prep the 2007 to the same level as the 2011. Unfortunately a beautiful showroom doesn’t improve a piano’s condition or value.

The pianos are virtually the same. In this case, I would choose the one you prefer.

If you choose the out of town piano, I am happy to recommend a fantastic technician in Ct. who will make it sing.

The latest changes to the Estonia 190 came in 2014:
* New soundboard design for the model 190
* New support beam design and structure for the models 190
* New method for the 190 surface

Thanks for the reply.
I'm in CT, and I have a technician already. But I'm open to suggestions. Feel free to send me a private message.
Thanks!

Soon enough! I just gave the deposit today. Hope to have it soon!
I ended up going with the 2011 from the local dealer.

Hi J&J, my photos are here:

http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/galleries/3107155/estonia-l210.html

We will see if I can manage to get a recording posted. If so, it will be a phone recording as I do not have any fancy recording equipment.
