I noticed a thread where a poster referred to a piano as "The Senator". Did you name your piano? Next question, male or female persona? (Boats often referred in the female gender.) I had this conversation with a friend today. I said it needs to be female because of the range in emotions a piano is capable of displaying. Interested in your thoughts.

Hi Sunnykeys! I do give some of the things our home a name. For instance, our air cleaner is called Bris, and our humidifier is called Brus. However, my piano, which actually even isn't a piano but a controller, is called Piano, because it is a very nice name. Piano! I like the sound of it.  Next question, male or female persona? For me, nonbinary. 
Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.

As the owner of the aforementioned "Senator," I'll add that it's the only piano I've ever named. Somehow, "the piano" still feels like it refers to my old Yamaha, and casually referring to a piano in my living room as "the Bösendorfer" either sounds pretentious (if I pronounce it correctly) or gauche (if I don't). Giving it a name solves both problems. We haven't been specific about the Senator's gender; I like the idea of addressing it as "Madam Senator," though, lol.

I love the name. I'm still trying to come up with a suitable name. Ok , it’s a little esoteric A yam is a tuberous vegetable of the potato family (you would probably need to be Southern US to know that) similar to a sweet potato So, a couple of name possibilities - spud - sweetie You won’t hurt my feelings if these are not appealing 😺

I was thinking about this the other day again and settled on a name for my piano. Lady Noir Belle
If my research is correct, Noir is black in French, Belle means beautiful. Lady because she is very patient as I continue to try to play better.

I have been calling my restored piano, Captain Kawai, or sometimes just The Cap'n. It's a big old boat and at 7'4", it has the feel of an aircraft carrier with the lid down.

Mine was named pretty spontaneously. It's a much nicer piano than my meager skills deserve and so out of respect I just naturally call him 'Sir"
