Jumping on to say hello. Happy to have found this discussion board. I'm a music/piano 2 year old (except I don't throw tantrum). Learning to play the piano is not something I would have ever dreamed of doing - but I'm doing it and loving it! Looking forward to getting to know you and sharing successes and challenges on this piano journey. I listened to a few of the recital pieces last night. I have so much to learn!
SunnyKeys - from Florida but not the Keys. Learning for 2 years.
Newbie - RCM Level 1 etudes, ABRSM Level 1 2019-20 Exam pieces. Sans exams.

Welcome. What do you like to play? I'm very much a beginner so the slower the piece the better. I've been doing lessons online so what is given there - how do I correctly refer to baroque, classical and romantic periods under one umbrella? Classical is the common term but I don't know if there is a better one to use in music circles. I do venture out and find pieces I like and work on them too. A couple popular tunes (30-40 years ago popular.) I'm a one page wonder at this point, some two pagers but that's my limit at this time. Like everyone, my "eyes are bigger than my stomach" when it comes to what pieces I want to play. My initial goal was to proficiently play "What a Wonderful World". I've not made it there yet! Too much music - too little time! I've made a shift in my lessons and gone to working on RCM level 1 etudes and ABRSM Level 1 and Level 2 pieces. (No interest in exams.) I'm really trying to hone in on the detail of the music. The first etude I played I felt I had it pretty well until I discovered I wasn't holding a note through a tie. I lack rhythm so that's a challenge.

Nope, no issues with it at all.
Took lessons from 1960 to 1969, stopped at age 16.
Started again in July 2020 at age 67. Lots more fun now!

I play in the morning, I play in the evening, I play when it's sunny, I play when it's gray... Maybe Dr. Seuss needs a ghost writer!
Well, I usually refer to time at the piano as practice. I'm not proficient enough to call it play. Thanks all for the warm welcome. Still figuring out the format of the boards here. Can I like a post to acknowledge a reply? I hit the flag but that was for reporting a post. oops.
If this is a crazy place I will fit in nicely.

As an adult learner myself I'd tell people they're never too old or too late to learn. Many wish they had taken up piano at a young age. Life circumstance change. Years ago we may not have the time or resources to pursue our passion so never regret what we were not able to do in the past.
Be happy and live in the moment...

And more than that is even better! I’m with an adult music group. We’re playing piano in the lower intermediate level. Some of us are at or near retirement. We want to engage in activities to keep us active/ our mind sharp. Making big leaps to an advanced level is the least of our concerns. I do push myself into playing an advanced piece once in a while. Finding time is a personal thing. I grew up around a religious family with no TV at home. Giving up 1h of TV a day adds up to over 300h practice a year. I don’t get glued to the TV like some people. Some people are busy doing other things. Young people may learn faster. Getting them to practice may not be easy when their friends spend a lot of time on social media or texting. Younger folks can have short attention span. It’s a trade-off.

I don’t get glued to the TV like some people. Some people are busy doing other things. You're not watching the best shows 416, have you seen Firefly, Startrek TNG, Breaking Bad, Rick and Morty?
