Is tuning stability related to tech's performance?
Or is it environmental?
Is it inherent in the instrument?
Or a combination?

As an example, if a decent piano is properly tuned AND kept in a museum quality environment of 50% RH (always), and played moderately, it would not need to be tuned again for about ten years.
With that said...ANY DEGREE of environmental fluctuation from the ideal is goibg to adversely affect that piano:
10% a little...not too bad
20% gonna hear it soon...wants tuning
30% bad...needs tuning every 3 months (to be decent)
40% really bad...needs tuning every month (to be decent)
50% really really BAD
60% REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD!
70% SUPER INCREDIBLY HORRIBLY BAD ...SERIOUS DAMAGE BEING DONE...

I make an effort to keep our RH between 40 to 60% all year long. Using the HVAC to take humidity out in the summer and a room humidifier to maintain humidity in the winter. Is that aceptable?..

Although it could possibly be declared The Museum of Random Acquisition, the environment of my house is hardly museum quality. We have a whole house humidifier and live in a desert, so humidity does't swing widely, but the temp changes between about 65-72 F.
My husband is really picky about intonation and wants to blame the tuner. We've used the same guy forever. I don't know if it is worth trying someone else or if we'd end up with someone worse.

Sometimes the stability is due to the listener's ears. All seriousness aside, that could mean you need a new husband!

So I am a little confused. Are we talking about a different piano than one you had before, or a different environment than you had before, or both? You imply that your tuner has satisfied you in the past but no longer does. Is this correct? Is it possible that a hearing deficiency is slowly creeping in unbeknownst to the owner of the ears? If so (and age is not a required factor), depending on the type/cause this can cause a piano to sound bad no matter what, and it gets progressively worse with time. Even excessive ear wax can cause distortion (I've had it so I know).
Please clarify.
