Two technician finally came today and the complaints I had about the action seem to be founded after all.

Before coming, they went to a store and weighed the action of a demo N1X. Mine is 6-7g heavier on average. They also identified friction issues especially on the knuckles which they showed me in action after disassembling the piano. They mentioned other issues too but as I don't know much about this technical side, I don't remember well.

Unfortunately this was just a diagnostic. I am in Portugal and here Yamaha support is def not the best. In the Iberean Peninsula, Yamaha Spain seems to be in charge of most things and it doesn't work well.

These two technicians from a Portuguese company are the only ones here with qualified training from Yamaha Japan on Disklavier and AvantGrand and they also complain a lot about Yamaha Spain.

The store had to first contact Yamaha Spain which replied that any technician familiar with acoustic pianos should be able to open the N1X, check the action and regulate it if needed πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ They also said that if I wasn't happy with the action, that is basically my problem and I should find a qualified technician myself. After many complaints, and explaining I had these complaints right from the beginning and I didn't have them when I played the demo unit, I got them to contact Yamaha Germany and they immediately arranged the diagnostic with this Portuguese company (what a difference!).

The technicians hadn't worked on many N1Xs before so they went to the trouble of going to a store to get a reference and they were pretty clear that the action on mine is not Ok. They also say it can be fixed but they need to send their diagnostic back to Yamaha Spain and those cool dudes who said any acoustic piano technician can work on an AvantGrand will decide what to do with my case πŸ˜”

What a headache! I hope all goes well with your piano because I believe when the action is well regulated, and I am pretty certain mine is and can serve as a reference, it’s such a delight to play.

My N1X gets delivered tomorrow morning. It should have been today but the piano carrier got held up in traffic so has been delayed. I'm sure it will be worth the four month wait since I ordered it!

Yes it's arrived and really pleased with it. As to recording it, I'm not sure how to do that yet as I don't have a USB drive. What's the best way to do it?

Congratulations, Tim! Looks neat. If you haven't already - make sure the pedal leveler screw is firmly against the carpet.

YouTube videos are also easy to create/upload - your choice!

Yes I can create Youtube videos no problem, it's getting the audio from the N1X into my computer I'm not sure on how to do yet.

Use a so-called printer cable to connect it to the computer. The piano can transmit audio through USB. You can record it in the free Audacity application.

I connected the instrument to the Smart Pianist app on my iPhone. I see only three Pianos in the Piano Room:

CFX Grand
Bosendorfer Imperial
Pop Grand

Anybody have a similar experience, or know if I need to change something so I can get a list of all available piano sounds?

I don't really have a pressing need to use the app. I found a Bosendorfer sound setting that I really liked. I like to be able to go look at the settings again, which is easier on the app. My daughter also plays the same instrument, and sometimes plays around with the settings in between exercises :-) so I'd like to fire up the app so I can quickly change it to my preferred tone.

I hope this question has not been ignored or forgotten, as I would be interested to know this too.

It's not been forgotten. I'm collecting my thoughts and impressions and I want to compare the Bosendorfer sound as well - because that is my favorite sound than the CFX. I will post in a day or so.

OK, cool.

Better yet, make a small rectangle of plywood or particle board and place it under the pedal assembly, then screw down onto that. I never got the screw alone to be stable on carpet.

A USB A -> USB B cable.

This is also a printer cable, but that's not going to work.

(Yeah I know... I couldn't resist cry)

Congratulations, Tim1987 smile

I've received my stool and Roland headphones today. Really happy; the piano sounds incredible. I will look into getting some recording done when I get chance!

Just to clarify, I put the usb cable into my MacBook and open Audacity, and Audacity should pick up the N1X for me to record in Audacity?

Depends on what OS you have I guess. And you should select the N1X audio interface for recording in Audacity.

If it’s a newer MacBook, then it must have USB-C in which case you will need an adapter from USB-A to USB-C in order to use that cable.

Why not find a USB thumb drive instead? They are cheap and even a 8GB one (although it would be hard to find such a small one nowadays) will store an entire day of audio.

Nice stool, Tim1987. Which one is it and what was the cost?
