Excuse me if this is already common knowledge, but I just learned that Kawai (at least in the US) is planning to increase prices on all of their pianos, effective April 1, 2021. That's this coming Thursday.

I couldn't find any information on what the increases will be, but they are across the board. I wouldn't be surprised to see 10-15% increases.

Kawai US

Interesting... I think they already increased here in Singapore. If not and they go up another 10% then no one is going to buy any. Yamaha will have them on toast.

I had heard of a price increase coming from my local dealer. He didn't say how much but he did mention that it may not affect the newer ES520/920 line but almost everything else. But if there is nothing to buy it makes an increase even more painful! I'm not sure if they would keep current prices on order which may be significantly delayed. But i would hope so.

If there's no stock of pianos then a price increase is not painful. It's irrelevant.

Is this why the NV10 has been discontinued? NV11 comes with a much better price now. (better for Kawai, I mean)

Well, that's bold from Kawai.
For a number of reasons.
I dare not bring up.
For fear of being labeled a Kawai basher.
Let them have it.
Peace.

I am glad I got a good price for my CA79 which helped me pay for my N1X.

I don't like expressions that use "don't", it is negative in a way. Let's make it positive and use e.g. "Easy enough, do buy Yamaha then"

I can confirm this. My local dealer suddenly increased price of NV10 (over 10%) and they confirm this increase comes from Kawai. Fortunately I found another dealer who offered me old price (bye bye any negotiations) despite the fact the piano will be shipped in about a month. And this was two weeks ago, so no it’s not because of Suez Canal situation.

my local dealer also told me that a month ago, that they were doing it over the freight cost shining due to pandemic and the electronic component factory in japan (or china ?) which burnt last year

Seriously, can’t you people wait for a few months?

If we collectively stop buying them pianos (boycott) the prices will ‘magically’ start coming down.

Don’t you see, if there’s no demand, the supply builds and a builds....till there’s just too much of it piled up in some warehouse. At this point they have no other option but to come down from their high towers and meet us at ground-level, and that’s when we strike!

Who’s with me?

I'm in! I promise not to buy any Kawai digital piano, hybrid or otherwise, in 2021, unless massive concessions are made on price.

Disclaimer: I'm not actually in the market for a digital piano at all.

So the closer to the factory we are, the less the freight cost impact should be.
I'll just have to make sure I only purchase from the Indonesian factory!

Odd times we live in...I think we're definitely seeing "the other shoe drop" last year and this...

In a free market what determines price is generally supply and demand. It seems the number of people stuck at home thinking "I know, I'll get a piano" is driving up demand and working limits imposed by Covid and silicon supply problems are cutting back supply so a price increase seems inevitable.

I doubt this is going to end with Kawai :-(
