I know this may be one of the strangest questions ever on this forum...
I am doing some literary research and need to know what were the popular Yamaha and Kawai slab piano models in 2008 and 2012.

A keyboard in a household that already has a nice grand or upright, but a 14 year old player (Advanced) would want to keep in bedroom to practice with headphones. Preferably something fairly light as well. Only needs piano function, to use as an alternative practice keyboard.

Many thanks in advance!

Nope, no issues with it at all.
Took lessons from 1960 to 1969, stopped at age 16.

If it is a literary research, how come the second paragraph about how it will be used? So, you’re going to purchase a piano that’s been produced in either of two exact years in the past? That’s perplexing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...cts#P-series_(stands_for_%22portable%22) for Yamaha P series models in general. But which were the popular ones?

As for Kawai, the ES6 was introduced in 2009, I believe, so if Kawai slabs were at all popular in 2008 then they'd mostly be the ES4 model which the ES6 replaced. Apparently.

There were also ES3 and ES5 before that, apparently introduced in 2004. Some of those may still have been around. The ES1 is from 2001, it seems.

As for 2012, I think the Kawai ES7 may have been available in late 2012 so people had either an ES6 or ES7 or still one of the older models.

Just wanted to describe the scenario in which the keyboard would have been used during those years, past tense. i.e. its not for gigging/stage play.
I will not be purchasing it.

Thank you for your thoughtful answer, much appreciated.

Yeah, for a popular basic slab piano, based on the dates on that wiki page, I'd say P85 for 2008, P95 for 2012 (or maybe P105 depending on exactly when it shipped). Though I'd also say that if if someone bought a P85 in 2008, that's probably what they'd still be using in 2012. It probably wouldn't be worth getting rid of the P85 just to get the P95/P105. I don't think Kawai had a comparable model back then.

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier instead of posting the question. If I skip back to about page 1224 of this forum I land right in the middle of January 2008. Looks like there are discussions about the Yamaha P70, P85, and P140.
And MacMacMac was as chatty as ever...

Your screenshot shows 1436 total pages of threads, and you depict page 1224.
But the paging depends upon the number of threads displayed per page.
I think you're set to 20 threads per page?

My maximum page number is 575, with 50 threads per page.
So to find "your" page 1224 out of 1436, I computed 1224 / 1436 * 575 = 490.
Voila. Page 490 (for me) displays much the same as your page 1224.

Just saying ... in case others wish to find the threads that appear in your picture.

Mac, I can’t say I’m very happy about you throwing all these numbers at me; as if saying, “Pete, I know you suck at math, so here’s a little riddle for you to start the day with...” cruel, just cruel!

Clavinova 400-series was out in 2007/2008. I got my CVP back then.

But wasn't the Clavinova a console piano? I need to depict a portable keyboard...

And thanks Mac, I think I will set my page default to 50 posts as well. Lots easier to find what I am looking for in 2012.

Bought my ES7 in December 2012, after downsizing and selling my RX2. Still have the ES7, which is played, at length, every day. I'm one of the few who are happy with digital, though not using built-in sounds, having played/owned acoustic grands for 60+ years. And no, my ears still work OK. My guess is that the OP is writing fiction and is looking for authentic details pertaining to that period.
