Anyone heard of these pianos? Know anything about them?

I'm casually looking for a "free-ish" piano to restore for fun and probably ultimately donate somewhere. Hoping to find one with a history or tone worth the effort. This one is odd looking enough I'm intrigued.

Second thought, anyone have any particular older or obscure brands to keep an eye out for that the piano loving world really shouldn't let hit the landfills and deserve a second life?

That is a lovely old piano. Here is an exquisite C Otto Berlin, but it looks like it has been restored. Apparently C Otto was a old German manufacturer. Probably a very good piano originally, however the one you are thinking of, is I think a 19th century instrument. Perhaps it is tunable, perhaps not ? A technician would have to decide.
I have often had the same thought as you have, about getting some rather attractive old free piano, and learn to tune.
With me I would do it just as a hobby,.and so I could learn more about basic piano action. I do not think I could actually be brave enough to ever attempt to tune my own piano.

I am not sure though , if an antique piano is the right free piano one should get to learn more about modern piano action.

I agree. That one looks great. Probably much less work needed as well. Maybe only a tuning and some adjustments on the felts at most.

The Baldwin Hamilton looks to be from the 1980-1990 period.

Did you decide that from the serial number BDB ? I actually replied, I love the Art Deco look. The lady said the piano was bought in 1990 .,However the piano apparently the piano has not been tuned for quite a few years.
Perhaps I may go and look. The piano is in an empty house and the lady has to arrange for the piano to moved.
It could be ideal for some young piano student as well.

I decided not to go and check the Baldwin Hamilton. It's just a dream about saving an unwanted piano. I really hope someone will take the piano, have it tuned and fixed and perhaps use it as a home piano.
I think they could get it for free. It has to be moved soon.
