I have a digital piano, but thought I might have better luck asking this question here: the bench it came with is absolutely killing my tailbone. I know Jansen benches are expensive, so I was surprised to see a couple in my price range. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these models, and/or which one they would choose?

I'm a little confused by the contents of their website, even though it is JansenPianoBenches.com, it is indicated that it is an official [the website's italics] retailer of Jansen products. Some of the benches are marked Jansen while others are marked "imported."

If Jansen is an American made product, which it is, then I can't think that the "imported" benches are genuine Jansen manufactured products. Both benches in your links are "imported."

You have to verify - if the brand name and reputation are important to you - that you are buying a Jansen and not one of the benches they import and distribute.

"Although not manufactured by Jansen in the United States, this imported, luxurious adjustable piano bench offers superb quality at a very affordable price."

"Our Piano Bench Review:

We find this adjustable bench to be the best Chinese imported piano bench we've seen. While still not at the quality level of the American made Jansen Artist bench, in the $150-$400 price range, this is the number one bench on the market in our opinion, and we've seen nearly all that are available."

This is an odd website-

"Our owner's years as a university music professor has allowed us to create a special relationship with schools and colleges across and the country....

Located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Paul L Jansen & Son INC. has been a manufacturer/supplier to the Music Industry for over 60 years. As the last American manufacturer of piano benches, Jansen is known globally for creating the highest quality benches, and as such is contracted by Steinway, Yamaha, Baldwin and other high-end piano manufacturers to manufacture benches for their pianos. All Jansen benches are constructed in their own factory in Wisconsin, using hardwoods from the United States, and even the patented micro-adjustment mechanism is built in their machine shop."

Those are imported benches. I bought this bench from JansenPianoBenches.com.

Plain top and satin finish is $400. The tufting and polished finish adds $250. However, this bench is not adjustable.

I would not advise a non-adjustable bench, as the proper height is very important and all of our bodies have different requirements

Well, that’s what I get for reading too quickly. I’ll just have to keep hunting for a more affordable option.

Thanks!

There have been a number of discussions about piano benches here with a number of happy owners of more affordable choices. I’ll look around but I think owners will chime in.

Edited to add: this is one of the recommended brands

Thank you for the links! I think I’m going to hold off until I can swing a Jansen. The Petite Artist Bench looks like it’ll suit my needs perfectly.

The Jansen Petite Artist bench is of the highest quality. Maybe something from Hidrau is reasonably comparable. I haven't seen a Chinese made adjustable bench yet that impressed me. I think they could make a superb one if they desired.

I bought a relatively cheap adjustable leather bench and recovered it with fabric because I don't like leather. My dog likes it too.

Why doesn't this photo show up inline?

I definitely like the pillow top over the flat one.

I saw a couple piano bench selling on amazon too, I know those are probably asian import , but really good price. And perhaps you can return too if you don't like it.

Karen, check these out: https://www.thomannmusic.com/andexinger_piano_banks_and_stools.html?ref=mobile

The Andexinger benches are amazing. I bought one last year. Super comfortable, super sturdy, 100% quiet, adjustable, and best of all, very low price compared to Janssen. They are used in international Chopin competition and I see lots of concert pianists using them.
