Ages ago when I was young it happened that people gathered for singsong events. On such occasions I often played the piano, usually by ear. Many of the songs were Norwegian folk tunes, but sometimes also melodies by known composers, including some Swedish or Danish songs. Many of these songs are almost forgotten now. It's a pity since many of the melodies are beautiful.

I have been considering the possibility to write down my own arrangements of some of these songs. I usually make arrangements that can be used as short solo piano pieces. The technical difficulty may vary a bit from easy to moderately hard.

Therefore I would be interested to know if anyone here are interested in sheet music of this kind. In case I'll gladly offer the sheets for free.

I have recorded three Norwegian folk tunes for you to check if you think it is interesting.

I really enjoyed these arrangements. Well done. If you post something I will definitely download copies.

Incidentally, my family still has sing-a-longs. At weddings, funerals, reunions or holidays music is an important part of the gathering. Everyone is expected to "do something" as my late mother used to say.

Very nice playing! It's interesting to me how these songs sound somehow familiar and normal, even though I have never heard them before. There is clearly a nordic "sound". The first of the three reminded me quite a bit about Grieg, but of course he did write a lot based on Norwegian "folkeviser".

Those three songs are quite lovely, nicely arranged and well-played.

Thank you for sharing them.

Regards,

Nice. Reminds me of Grieg's Lyric pieces.

I think as a start that I write down an arrangement of one of the melodies and prepare a PDF open for everybody to try out. Then I hope for some feedback about level of difficulty and other comments.

Agree, these songs are beautiful. It would be very nice of you to write an arrangement and let us try playing as well.

Absolutely love them. I'd love for the sheet music. I sometimes play nordic folk tunes for ballet classes. The rhythms are terrific for dancers, and I like how they sound. I would definitely play these.

Hey, Ganddalf... Was thinking of you this morning. I played a Halling for ballet class this morning. One of the exercises were strong high kicks, so I played a Halling for this exercise. smile
