I bought my Young Chang U-107 Ebony studio upright 35 years ago. It is in beautiful condition externally, with a lovely sound, but needs tuning. I am moving across the country in 10 weeks. My questions:

1. Should I take the piano with me, or sell it?

2. It I decide to sell it, should I have it tuned first? And how can I determine a reasonable selling price?

Any advice would be welcome. Thank you!

I also have a 40 year piano that I love the external look (polished wood) and used to have good sound. But since I didn't tune it for long time, now even it get tuned two times in 9 months, I still feel the sound/touch is not satisfactory yet.

Things to consider:

If you plan to sell your old piano, after you move, will you get another one?

For selling , I would turn it first, without tuning it may sound awful. And at the same time you can also check with the tuner regarding opinion of selling price.

Reasonable selling price? Craig list? or other local buy/sell site? I'm sure other forum members can give good idea smile

Just my 2 cents.

Hello, and welcome to Piano World!

I quick Google search for Young Chang U-107 piano for sale, shows prices ranging from $500 up $2000. I'd think $500 to $1000 would be a good probable price range for your piano, but I'm no expert.

So, how much do you like your Young Chang U-107? How much would it add to the moving cost?

If you are moving the rest of your household goods and furniture cross country, the piano may not add much to the cost, but I suppose it depends on the moving company, if any.

Do you think you might be interested in getting a different piano?

Just a few thoughts.

Good luck!

Rick

Thank you for your two cents - it is helpful! Yes, I will get the piano tuned and seek advice from the technician to help me decide.
