Is it me, or does the Default Piano sound on the Korg D1 sound like a less refined version of the new Steinway D from Pianoteq?

I was playing with Pianoteq 7 and couldn't help but notice that the Steinway D sounded ever so familiar. By chance, I compared it to the default Piano bank on the Korg D1, and they sounded rather bizarrely similar. The Pianoteq VST has a bit more depth to it, and a little more physical modelling detail. But otherwise it's almost as if the Korg D1 is running an older version of Pianoteq with the same instrument.

Actually, I know the Korg D1's primary instrument uses a bit modelling itself, but they don't list the source piano. Perhaps Korg's piano is secretly based on the (real) Steinway D?

D....D1....it almost makes sense!

Well, both D1 and Pianoteq try to immitate piano, so this is the source for the similarity laugh D1 have stripped down version of pianos from Kronos/Grandstage. Maybe they are EQ'ed in a way they sound similar to Pianoteq D. No way they implemented modelling enginge like PTQ without bragging about it in every possible way.

Now the Korg Module (iOS Virtual Instrument) usually used along with the plugKEY plugged into a MIDI controller produces sounds which to my ears is almost the same as the Bank 1, Default setting of the D1. The Ivory American D pianos sample is available on the same Korg Module platform - and I am thinking that the same is built into the D1 - the default sound. If you're not using the D1, but another MIDI controller with the Korg Module, you'd have to buy the Ivory pianos for extra to use.

A man must love a thing very much if he practices it without any hope of fame or money, but even practice it without any hope of doing it well. Such a man must love the toils of the work more than any other man can love the rewards of it.

I think this is the most plausible explanation. It's a shame Korg doesn't advertise what pianos they sampled for the D1, because it has a great sound for it's price range.
