On an upright is it normal that bridle tapes go taught when the pedal is fully depressed?

I should have added that mine are taught but I adjusted the pedal so that the backchecks do not start to lift. This slightly increased the hammer distance when the pedal is fully depressed.

Good. The bridles should not be so taught that they lift the whippens otherwise you could end up with keys falling downwards or lost motion at the capstans.

You will have keys falling downward or lost motion even if the straps do not pull on the wippens.
