Yep, imslp.org

Anything else is under copyright, so if you find it for free, then it’s scammy, and I wouldn’t go there. (Unless it’s put out for free by the publisher, which certainly does happen.)

IMSLP doesn't have everything so if you find it elsewhere it's not necessarily under copyright. If one is looking for a piece and it's not at IMSLP, this is one of the best places to request it:
http://www.pianophilia.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=11

Just make sure to request it on one of the existing threads.

Honestly? Henle.de.

They have an amazing preview function, and aside from being able to download their copious critical notes as PDFs - esp. for their Chopin editions, superb scholarship (extensive and free) - you can alternate between hardbound and softbound Urtext editions to view the entire sheet music if you want, because across editions the pages they skip are not always the same. This isn't practical for long pieces, but going off the preview version works to assemble a short piece if you have the patience.

Here's an example, Debussy's Clair de Lune:
page 1; page 2;page 3; page 4; page 5; Complete Preface (bilingual). Short of some critical notes, that's the entire thing. What you're missing is the amazing production quality of a Henle. After I played around with their preview function like this, I ended up paying hundreds and hundred of dollars for their sheet music. I'm just impressed with their work, and impressed that they let you preview so much of it.

Wiener Urtext sometimes also has great preview PDFs, free and legal to download. E.g. their amazing edition of Brahms's 51 exercises, you get some pages in preview and can study them on their own; ditto for many, many other products on their page. Altogether, probably hundreds of pages of free sheet music, if you're willing to only view snippets.

Neither of these options is ideal and isn't meant to supplant playing the full volume, but they are sometimes great tips for fingering etc.

En...sorry if a little off the topic, I wonder if I can seek for some help here. It's about a song, Besame Mucho. I'd heard many great versions of piano transcriptions of it, including one on a Schimmel K230, but cannot find music scores of them. Are those just improvisions, or the scores exist and are shared by composers (maybe payment needed), just I don't know where to find them? Also appreciate other transcriptions of songs like Misty, Por una Cabeza etc.

Try googling something like Besame Mucho free sheets or Besame Mucho sheets. I'll get you started:
Mercuzio's site has hundreds of good arrangements including one for Besame Mucho:

I got a transcription of this performance of Besame somewhere for free but can't remember where:

The free sheet music to this performance of Por Una Cabeza is in the link below the video.

Google search engine for your composer/ artist/ title. Then, go to the "images" tab. Go to "tools" and put the color choice on "white."

You can also search for song title and add "pdf" to the search term. Good luck.

pianoloverus & MichaelET,
Thanks a lot for your information. Having listened to the videos and done some elementary search, I find that there're many classical/jazz versions (some available and some not). Even jazz there're many transcriptions in different styles. Maybe to have the music just as I imagine the best way is to create a version by myself. Quite hard work for me but things always go like this, to get the best you must take some effort or pain.
