Can any of you point me to a source for Schwander tied-action (roller-rocker) parts? I am a huge fan of old Becky's with Schwander action and want to keep them alive if possible, as opposed to swapping it for capstans. Having reworked two B's recently I worry where I'd be if something broke "untying" the key from the action for repair. I would very much like to have some parts on hand to fix things. I have an A an B in the shop both in the queue for rebuilds and I'd love to figure this piece out before I get into it.

Thanks every so much.
Josh

This is a long shot, but I wonder if you contacted Tokiwa in Japan, if they'd make parts for you?

I 3d printed rocker capstans and cnced that part between wippen and capstan on a small diy cnc router from high quality plywood, it works but I highly recommend printing it with carbon fibre reinforced filament. This is probably cheapest possible method. There are plenty of manufacturers that can make for you custom cnced parts but they are usually hesitant to work with wood (harder to set good parameters than for plywood and other more isotropic materials) and even if they agree to make this from wood, it would be very expensive to make small quantities of rocker capstans because of their shape it will require additional custom jigs and quite a lot of labor.

Thank you Joseph and Ambrozy. Without a source I guess I will cross that bridge when I get to it. If anyone decides to convert one to capstans and wants to part with some PM me. smile

However if I get into that position I will looking into CNC or printing options I think.

Super Best,
Josh

I've been trying to find these parts for five years. I have an old Bechstein that now has modern parts (with capstans). When I have time to rebuild the old Schwander action, it's going back into into its rightful home.
