What a tragic loss to music.

One of the greatest Jazz Piano/Keyboard players in the history of recorded music.

During the height of the pandemic lockdown in 2020 he played every night on Facebook. Looking back, I'm glad I took the time to watch them. Such a young spirited soul sharing his experiences and his practice techniques. RIP Chick.

I first heard Chick when a high school buddy played Chick's Improvisation album for me back in the 70's and I've been a fan of Chick music and playing since then. I feel lucky to of gone to see his several times both in clubs and in concert. I always remember how he was so happy on stage playing. Thank you Chick for all the music and inspiration.

RIP Maestro

Chick... I remember seeing him at concert in Toronto. His personal love for his craft and his passion to inspire is what struck me most. I've been a fan since his early recordings. To one of the greatest... RIP.

Me- 17 years old in High School and listening to WRVR the then jazz station in New York City. Les Davis, my favorite DJ, would play Return to Forever. A "Fusion" group with Chick Corea at its helm. Man! I had never heard anything like it. I started to listen to anything and everything I could get my hands on. Chick Corea was an immensely diverse composer - from "The Romantic Warrior" to "Piano Improvisations Vol. 1 and 2" and everything in between! I loved it all. I heard him countless times in countless configurations. I am so grateful to have lived during a time where I got to experience his music live and in recordings. He will continually inspire my own compositions. R.I.P. Chick Corea.

I've been listening to Chick's music all morning (for me). What a master of his art. His lyricism, his virtuosity, his fantastic rhythm, his original voice, his surprising and moving lines and harmonies. He was always an inspiration to me.

I was first (properly) introduced to his music with "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs", and I remember by the 2nd track Matrix I was captivated, like I was listening to a whole new language. And some songs will always have a very powerful hold over me, like what could be a better call to action that gets your fingers moving and your heart beating than those five lead-in notes in Armando's Rhumba?

Such a loss of talent. I can't remember how many times I played his Inner Space album when it came out, which was my introduction to his music. Great tunes.
His duo's with Gary Burton are worth checking out. The writing and flow of ideas. Just beautiful.

I also checked out some of his Facebook lock down sessions. Very generous and thoughtful to share his processes.
Glad I had the chance to see a live solo performance by him.

RIP

Hi

That's a great picture Nahum.
Looks like the 1970s?

Chick Corea was a very fine drummer and a huge influence on my drumming hero Steve Gadd.

Cheers

The first time I heard Chick Corea I was driving down a deserted two line highway at night in the middle of Michigan in 1984, listening to a Detroit radio station. Started hearing an intricate piano-vibraphone duet, melodies weaving in and out, rich sonorities, complex rhythms. The tune went on for 15 minutes, two instruments swirling around each other like birds. I was thinking, I don't know what this is but this is something different.

I drove past my turnoff and continued listening to the end. The DJ said that was Chick Corea and Gary Burton's "Duet". I've been a big fan since then.

The first time I saw Chick live he was playing again with Gary at the Dakota in Minneapolis about eight years ago. I was sitting close enough to literally reach out and touch Gary's instrument. Didn't, but could have. I saw Chick about three more times with different groups, each show too amazing for words.

There was a great tribute to Chick Corea last night on the Newport Jazz Festival Facebook page. He interviewed musicians and staff that worked with Chick years. It's over two hours long but worth watching it all. Herbie showed up and was so funny.
