Yes, I think I made a mistake. I wrote that SB had red felt, but it does not. It is as black as EP.
If "Kawai" is written in silver - then the felt is black, if in gold - then the felt is red.
So there is an alternative: to put 6 kg of black polish on the rosewood finish, or to replace black felt by red felt smile
As for now, I am playing mostly in the dark, so I don't see the color of felt and I can pretend it is red.

My dealer told me afterwards that he currently has to deal with a lot of warranty and refund claims with the CA79 mainly because of those two issues.
I would certainly recommend you to contact your dealer to repair the noisy keys, since it should be covered by you guaranty. I really can understand your frustration I felt exactly the same. Things like this make you lose the „trust“ towards your instrument and really can disturb you from concentrating on the music.

Thank you for sharing your experience. While it is nice to hear that your dealer took care of you when you raised these complaints, I am currently worried because the first time I contacted my dealer about the speaker buzz a few months ago, I was told "thats just maybe how the instrument sounds and you just don't like it," when they had a salesman come to my house to inspect the instrument before sponsoring a Kawai technician to come look at it. They wouldn't even acknowledge that it was an issue or help me look for a solution. I had to get in touch with Alan Palmer, the Kawai product manager in order to have my issue resolved. My current worry is that they will come inspect again and give me the "oh that's just how the instrument is supposed to sound and you just don't like it," when we clearly know that the undesirable sounds coming from the keys are anything but.

It's been a few days since I emailed them and I have yet to receive a response, I'll keep you updated. I'm afraid I'll have to reach out to Kawai directly again.

Sure, basically they are the same old 2 SW bugs that I saw being discussed a couple of times here on this forum.

1.If I create a sound profile based on SK-EX rendering, save it and select "current" in the system config, after restart it will default to the standard one.

2. If I don't deactivate Midi option I will not be able to stream to the CA-79 because I see only pairing option CA-79, CA-79 Audio appears only when deactivating Midi and this option gets reactivated after restart.

Absolutely right! Also their Premium K800 Pianos are in the most exklusive version available with silver hardware and black felt.

And I love my silver EP black felt CA99 :-).

Once, everyone has red felt, we will start talking about the right shade of red vs. the wrong shade of red smile.

Just shows we haven't grown a bit in 15 years smile.

And, also just now, you probably realized that you are unhappy with the color of it. smile Knowledge is a true burden!

For Kawai acoustics, I believe the Brass/Gold color scheme (pedals, logo, etc) uses red felt and the Chrome/Silver color scheme (pedals, logo, etc) uses black felt.

I also believe the Chrome scheme generally comes with an upcharge and in that sense can be considered more upscale. It's classier anyhow. laugh

Welcome to the world of crazy!

I kid you not, before I ever came here I would run my “pianos” to the ground, and only then would I feel the need to upgrade.

Now, I feel the need to upgrade immediately after unboxing because Gombessa says that the felt color on my board is cheap and ugly. wink

I still like my board, but every time I look at the competition I wish that my felt was as beautiful, and this eats into me day by day.

Fast forward a few months past unboxing and despite the fact that I think I love my piano, the urge to upgrade is now more intense thanks to Gombessa now saying that the speakers on my board are inadequate and that the only way to improve this is to add monitors or, once again, get a new and shiny board with slightly bigger speakers.....”but Gombessa”, I say.....”yes, Pete”, replies Gombessa....”but I’m happy with my ugly, tiny speakered, short-pivot piano”.....

“Are you sure you’re happy, Pete”......

Next thing you know, I’m having a full-on panic attack! laugh

Maybe with the next update it could be implemented that the auto off function takes into account if an audio device is BT streaming to the piano.
Now if I stream via BT and I have enabled the option to turn off automatically it doesn't care there is BT activity and just turns off.

Pete14 makes a good point. There would have to be many happy CA79 and 99 owners in the world. I am one of them for the most part. We mustn’t forget that at the end of the day it is about the joy of playing piano and making music that drives us to even own an instrument. That said, this is an owner’s club, and members can discuss all manner of things if they so choose.

BUT...it is the 21st century, and electronics today does present challenges to ownership....mainly in the field of user interfaces, embedded firmware, software bugs, electronic design and performance etc, and not just in digital pianos of course. Similarly, yet with a totally different set of challenges, acoustic pianos for decades have demanded correct climate control, care against humidity and dust, regular tuning and regulation and eventually refurbishment.

With these realities in mind, we should however acknowledge that many of the ‘faults’ and ‘quirks’ in these two models are real and very disappointing to all that have saved hard and parted with considerable funds to own one. Let’s not let the colour of felt cloud these real issues.

Kawai James....I sincerely hope that we don’t see a new model of Kawai digital piano released before we see a significant effort from the company to address the issues stated in this forum with the current models. Yes it is all about making music and the joy that brings to us and our (in my case) captive audiences, but some of these problems do distract us somewhat from that process. I would settle for orange felt, if I could have some of the issues addressed by Kawai within the next month. It has been a very considerable amount of time to get something other than beta firmware out for just a few....ie, an upgraded firmware for these otherwise beautiful instruments.

Thank you

Hi guys, I want to record piano in Logic however it didn't work. I use Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 (3rd gen.), but when I connected Line out (on piano) to Line in on audio interface (on rear side of audio interface - 3 & 4) using 2 mono cable it didn't record anything. Do you think it will be working using TRS cables? Or do you have any ideas how is best way to record it (beside MIDI)?

Thanks for help,
Petr

Please note that the instrument's Master Volume fader also controls the Line Out level, therefore it may be necessary to increase the Master Volume fader position.

If you wish to mute the speaker sound, please connect a pair of headphones or a headphone adapter into one of the Phones connectors.

Kind regards,
James

I know that scarlet red felt is used (often?), and also sometimes burgundy red. Any other?

Cardinal and crimson look good. And perhaps vermilion. Yes, difficult to choose. Maybe auburn smile

However, felt is of different softness and different thickness.
And I need to know what softness and thickness is required for CA99.
Without the service manual, I don't know which felt to order.
So, please, Kawai, tell us what is the recommended softness and thickness of the CA99 fallboard (nameboard) felt.
Better still, what exactly red felt is used for Rosewood CA99? It probably has some markings or specs.
