Good to know that I´m not the only one... (so to speak).

Here in Spain some dealers told me that due to the pandemia the demand of musical instruments had increased sharply and they had problems on the other side to absorbe the high demand due to the cuts in the production. I´m chasing the Yamaha clp785 but generally speaking they told me that Yamaha is sending little by little the orders. I was dreaming to have my Xmas present with me in December but I think that it won´t be possible....

New update from Thomann for my Roland HP704. Expected delivery Jan 29 2021. But in their e-shop the expected date is 9-12 weeks, so 29 Jan could also be mid February. I am excited that I 'll have to wait two and a half months more at best until it reaches my door!

The Thomann delivery estimates aren't always reliable. I had an order in for some stuff I wanted with an expected delay of around two months. Every Monday, the number of weeks shown dropped by one. I e-mailed them the day it was due in, and they seemed to be expecting it but it didn't show up. Then the delivery estimate changed to 2 months again.

Many people have had deliveries from Thomann much earlier than expected too, so it's not all bad.

I think Thomann is quite reliable and I don't blame them for the delay. Digital pianos are rare these days. Looking at any given store the back order time is huge for most makers. I am just disappointed with the delay. My midi keyboard is starting to become a limiting factor as I go on with my piano lessons (already in the second month now), because:
* the 49 keys are simply not enough for some exercises
* the black keys play quite easily and unnaturally much much louder than the white keys
* the white keys can hardly be pressed with the fingers placed deep between the black keys.

So I need a decent keyboard and I was planning to buy a portable next year given the cost of the DP. Now I may have to reconsider and this adds to this endless (and useless) ranting of mine.

I ended up canceling my roland order and have a Yamaha clp-745 arriving tomorrow - the last delivery slot before Christmas! How’s that for cutting it close for the holiday!

Good for you.

Where I live there is NOTHING left. I went to my local piano dealer a month ago and it was an empty space with lots of echoes. There was some Roland's and a Yamaha U1 Sh2 and that was it. Normally the places has maybe 20-30 pianos on display and a lot more in inventory.

I checked the stocks this morning and there was Nothing left. No Roland's, no yamaha's. No nothing nada niet nothing to sell. And our government has decided to close every businesses that is not groceries or essentials until mid January at least.

Let me tell you that here if you want to buy a piano, you're looking at March or perhaps April. It's a gloomy perspective and I really hope the dealers stay alive in this impossible situation.

Everything's overstocked where I am. No shortage, fewer buyers if anything.

I ordered a Roland HP704 in mid-November in Spain and I'm still waiting... Neither the local store nor the official Roland support are able to tell me when it could be delivered...
Also other models like the FP10 are not available.

I guess the only option is to keep waiting... But also I'm thinking on buying an alternative (cheaper and available) so at least I could keep practicing.

Let's all hope Roland speeds up the process! smile

Could be caused by this:
https://www.prosoundnetwork.com/business/akm-factory-fire-shakes-up-pro-audio-industry

DAC and ADC chips for most manufacturers are out of stock until late 2021.

Part of the supply problem stems from restrictions the manufacturers place on their dealer networks. It’s nearly an oligopoly. Yankees can’t buy instruments from Canada, we from US, and i can only imagine sourcing from Asia. Something here suggest the dealer network model is outdated and a direct to consumer model could better serve consumers, not to mention with lower prices.

I agree. Why I have to pass by a local dealer to get a digital piano shipped to my address is ridiculous. Oh and also I can't contact Yamaha if there is an issue. I have to get in touch with the dealer who is then going to place a call for me. This is all very strange. I mean I understand for acoustics. These needs to be regulated on the dealer's floor and then they need to be delivered by specialists. But digitals just why ???

I guess if you want to try them on a show floor it makes sense. But still we should be able to buy directly from the manufacturer.

Currently the government has shut down every dealers for half of January at least. But with current estimates of cases this week we are looking at total shutdown until perhaps March.

I'm sorry I know this feels like whining. I'm just so frustrated.
I've been working extra hard this year to be able to afford a good digital. And now that I can actually afford one, every dealers is backordered in addition to being shutdowned for the foreseeable future. This situation is beyond frustrating.

I never contacted my dealer for service. I went straight to Yamaha. But perhaps that's specific to the US and not to Canada?

Mareg,

Maybe this will make you feel better about having to wait for your digital piano. This is 100% true story.

My friend's husband had to take his dad to the hospital the week before Christmas He somehow contracted COVID from that event and passed it on to his wife, 3 children and mother in law. His wife (my friend) has been in the hospital since last Wednesday. Her mom went to the hospital last Wednesday and passed away on Christmas morning. They couldn't visit her or say goodbye.

We're in the middle of a pandemic and should consider ourselves very lucky if the only bad thing we've experienced is having to wait for a new toy. I'm sure manufacturers would love to get their products into your hands but this is out of their control; it's out of everyone's control.

I'm very sorry for your loss djvu10.

I do realise I'm a very lucky individual. And I understand your point of view. Other's concerns seems petty when hit with actual tragedy. I too have had to deal with tragic events in the past. I remember how I felt about anyone complaning about anything on forums. It was toxic and I actually had to teak a break from society in general. I actually feel empathy for your situation. And you are right in the fact that knowing other suffers gives oneself perspective. I stated above that I knew I was on a rant. I'm sorry if I have offended you in any way.

I guess I was just stating how conter intuitive it is for this industry to use local distributors as a mean to get their product to the end-user. The pandemic, for all it's considerable negative impacts, has made many glaring issues very clear to lot of businesses. I'd wish for manufacturers of digital piano to open up means to distribute their product themselves.
