I just ordered an open box Kawai ES8 that does not come with a music rest. Is there any way to get a compatible music rest for the DP without breaking the bank by buying the wooden stand? (I am perfectly fine with an unofficial rest)

The ES8 manual indicates that a music rest normally is included with the DP (different than the one supplied with the stand). The rest might be available from Kawaii.

If not, how about purchasing another DP's rest and adding the pins that attach it to the ES8? It will take some fabrication skills (but not much) and you will have a professional-looking rest.

Maybe start with something similar to this:

You can also take any music stand and put it behind the piano. If you can find a used Manhasset, for instance. I do that when working with loose-leaf pages, since you can’t get many on the included rack without them falling off or between the wires.

Assuming you are based in the US, I would give Kawai America a call and ask if it would be possible to purchase a replacement music rest.

The ES8 has two types of music rest, the included metal music rest, and the optional acrylic (transparent) music rest which is included with the furniture stand.

Kind regards,
James

Wish I'd seen this earlier. Somehow I have two of these rests and I am about to put one up on Reverb but can't imagine a lot of people are looking for this accessory. Let me know if interested and I'll be happy to offer fair price and ship it out to you. Assuming you're in the US?

How wide of a music rest do you prefer? This one is 32”, which is useful for recalcitrant score books that don’t want to lay flat on a stand and require additional books on each side to hold them in place.

Does anyone have a plexiglass music rest for the Es8 stand that they would like to sell? I need one in black. I just bought a stand from a local dealer but somehow it didn’t come with the plexiglass music rest.

We are sick!

First it was pivot length; now it’s music rest width!

My shrink is willing to do a ‘group session’ to help us with these unhealthy obsessions. Who’s in?

He’s been working with me on my ‘new-piano-release’ depression, and so far it’s working. I’m learning to let go of what I have no control over. If Kawai wants to release a DG-30 and then follow it with an ES-920 that is their problem, and since I have no control over that, I should not lose my sleep, go on endless rants, beat up my neighbor, nor get severely depressed. crazy

Don't know about being sick, but like said, the plexiglass music rest should come with the "designer stand" unless it's a lightly used item at a reduced price and the seller has said that it's missing.

Otherwise it's a scam. (Or an honest human error.)

But why it's called "music rest"? It's a thing to make the music "rest"? Can the music even rest? And if it can, can the music snore while sleeping?

I'm "in" only if a Kawai representative will come too.

Don't forget fasttrillsability.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the good ol’ trill obsession!

For some reason we tend to blame it on the piano; as if the piano is supposed to be trill-friendly. Well, we tend to blame most everything on those ‘darn’ digitals and their short (unplayable) pivots, narrow stands, bad speakers, short/looped samples, and yes, lack of fasttrillsabilty!

I kid you not, magicpiano, as I wrote my essay on ‘Music rest obsession and such’, I could not rid myself from a certain yearning for the way things used to be before the ‘hashtags’ took over. It was a simple and straightforward world; where people said ‘color’ and not ‘colour’.

As you imply, the music never rests, but I can assure you that some hashtag-nut out there feels it politically correct to “let the music rest”. if anything, the music should always stand and never rest! It stands, the music!

Yes, magicpiano, it should be called a ‘music stand’!

Isn't there a VST out there that has audience coughing and snoring for realistic effects? Somebody proposed notations to ensure these occurred at appropriate times.

Perhaps there should be notation for when the music should sleep and snore, too!

Yes, there is such a VST from VSL, but it uses samples, so I had to pass on it.

I want modeled coughing and snoring!

I knew it was missing. It was a floor model and no one has them right now. The dealer tried to order another stand but they are unavailable right now. Just asking if anyone has one to sell l would offer to buy.

Annj, the ES8 has been discontinued. As a result, it may no longer be possible to order the HM-4 stand or F-301 pedal unit - this really depends on whether or not your local Kawai subsidiary/distributor has any inventory remaining.

Kind regards,
James

Alas, I do not have an obsession with posting unconstructive garbage.
