When i was working and travelling in the US, i would enter into small cities and going into a local restaurant, many times i would see on their menu something like " the best pancakes in the world". Eventually i translated that into "i do good pancakes" (not even necessarily true !). So when i see a title like "10 top secreats revealed" i read "a few good (hopefully) tips to share with you". Anyway the more appealing the title, the less likely it is, usually, to contain really new or innovative content.

But it's worth posting three times for, apparently.

Best stay out of the typical bookstores, then. "Soap Opera Secrets"... "Dieting Secrets That Really Work"... "Europe's Travel Secrets"... "Astronomy Secrets You Should Know"...

None of those are really secrets either.

I'd add that in many cases such a title is not the author's choice, but the publisher's. Some authors protest, but the publishers insist. Considering this, I think it's not correct to judge about a book or the book's author by the title.

The BS title is there to try and sell the book

I don't read that far into a title. It's a just a title to me it's the same as calling it Super Sight Reading Strategies. Similar to a Restaurant that claims worlds best burger... I'm sure it's not and it's an opinion but I still will eat there.

If the title helps them sell it why not? I don't think the author/publisher scammed billions from people based on a title.

Later tonight I'll look at it more closely and try to let you know what I think in terms of the impact it had (or didn't have) on my sightreading now....

Thanks! I look forward to it.
