I have my great grandmothers Gulbransen we think the model is 344730. How can we figure out value and where to donate it? We hate to part with it however we also want it to be used.

Thanks
Jkh

If 344730 is the serial number, the piano was manufactured in 1940. At 80 years old, depending what work has been done to maintain it over the years, the piano may have some to little - if any - value.

Its value is determined by the condition of the piano and that would need to be determined by a qualified technician examining the piano.

Regards,

Agreed with Bruce. If it's a vertical piano, the value is somewhere between $0 and $200, depending on how recently it's been serviced, whether it will hold a tuning, and if the action and pedals work. If it's had significant work done, it may be worth more, however that tends to be unlikely with a lower cost brand like Gulbransen. I have never seen a Gulbransen grand piano.

Most institutions and even some thrift stores don't want old pianos as a donation anymore, as people are trying to dump them left and right, instead of having to pay to have the piano disposed of.

You can put the piano up for adoption

Thank you for the input . I had hoped my children would play. However after 21 years Old I don’t think they will start now . We are thinking donating will be our best option

There are oodles of free, or nearly free pianos, listed on Craigslist in my area. Oddly, I've noticed a large number of Gulbransens lately. Most are between zero and a couple hundred bucks, as TD indicated. That's asking price. Most will probably never sell, since there are many free pianos too.
Here's a Gulbransen baby grand with an asking price of $1250.

Your best bet might be to find a local music school or settlement and let them know that you have a piano that is free to anyone who will come get it. The school might have a student who would like to study piano but who cannot afford one.

We gave our lovely old upright to a student in that situation; a friend of ours knew of someone who needed a piano but couldn't afford to buy one. Old uprights have no value, but you might find someone who will come and take it away and give it a new lease on life!
