Hi,

I know this topic is all about personal choice / preference. But to all piano purists, what is your take on the best VST piano sample library out there today? I've done the comparable research on what assumes to be the top 5.

Garritan's, CFX Concert Grand.

Vienna Instruments, Bosendorfer Imperial 290.

EastWests, Quantum Leap Pianos.

Spectrasonics, Keyscape Piano Collection.

Addictive Keys, Studio Grand.

Comments.

I think Vintage D is also very popular. But Gartitan CFX is certainly the most popular.

Of those listed, I agree Garritan CFX is probably the most popular.

Gotta love that Vintage D. My best VST by far, despite a few faults. It sounds more like a piano than any other.

The Garritan is also excellent, though I prefer a Steinway sound.

I'm not keen on the EW. And I cannot comment on the Addictive Keys or Keyscape ... I've never tried them.

For me it's Embertone walker, but out of your list I only own garritan cfx, which is good but also a bit overrated in my opinion. So, I haven't tried the rest of the list or any vsl piano, but i do own synthogy's American d and did own ravenscroft as well as some older libaries to compare.

I also like the vintage d, but think it's a little dated, and I miss things like multiple mic positions to be able to get a closer sound.

It's really a great thing when you finally find "the libary for you", which i have found in the Walker, especially since i paired it with a vpc-1. I am really quite satisfied, and while i am interested in other libaries, i don't feel any hurry to buy one until i'm totally convinced it will be absolutely amazing, and it has everything i want.

Keyscape does not belong to this list, at least if we are talking about acoustic piano libs.
XLN Addictive Keys are very, very far from best Steinway and Yamaha upright implementations. May be, for recording cinema tracks they are still good, but for live play - secong grade, IMHO. Its only pro is small size.

Pianoteq?

I kid, I kid... grin

(Although I am playing with it and I do like it so far. However the OP was talking about sample libararies, to which Pianoteq need not apply).

I agree, Keyscape and Quantum Leap Pianos did not impress, the only two that did were Garritan's CFX Concert Grand, and the Bosendorfer Imperial 290. In comparison Native Instruments Vintage D, which i own, and Ravenscroft Grand i thought to be excellent samples.

Can anyone explain the difference between full installation and compact installation when installing a sample library'.
