Hi,

I have a used Yamaha U3 made in 1983.
Sounds very good to me.

But sometimes it makes a buzz, something like a vibration after I play for some minutes.

I have determined that this noise comes from the inferior panel of the piano. When I push on this panel, this vibration stops but comes again after some minutes of playing. If I remove the panel, this buzz stops.

Now, is this common on upright pianos?
I suppose I could use some kind of isolating tape to stop this phenomenon? Could I have an advice?

The last time the technician came to tune my piano, there was no noise

You should try to find the spot which is buzzing with you ear.
My petrof was also buzzing and I found it was at the point where the middle pedal rod was connected to the hammer set, the rubber had fallen out, hence the buzz. I taped the metal part and no buzz.

To track down if the buzz really is coming from the panel I'd try padding one side at a time of the panel with a very thin piece of cardboard. Thicker if there is still a visible gap.

If that fixes the problem it also suggests the solution ...

Sounds like an easy fix. Just padd the panel where it's loose.
But check the humidity, if too low then the wood will shrink and gaps appear between wood panels. Just raising the humidity to appropriate levels would be the best fix.

Sometimes brushing Teflon powder (maybe even talcum) on the mating edge surfaces can help.

it seems I should search to find exactly where comes this buzz from and fix it.

Polyester-finished edges rubbing against each other can buzz like that. It's quick and easy to brush Teflon powder or talcum round the edges of the bottom panel. It won't do any harm, if the buzz turns out to be something else.
