Now we are really 30 days from recital #58. It will open for submissions May 1st - you will have 2 weeks to submit your performance, and it will go live May 15th.

Ready?
Sam

The piano must get tuned first, but getting a tuner currently is a problem...

I had 1 piece that was intended for the last recital but wasn't ready. Ended up submitting a shorter piece. Now that the new piece is already done and I'm satisfied with the result, I'm a month ahead of schedule.

Yu may, in these harsh times, have to consider acquiring a non acoustic piano. I won't say "digital" since I'd hate to cause offence . . . . . grin

Luckily, I had the Weinbach tuned just before lockdown, but I’ve given it such a frenzied thrashing over the past few weeks that it’s starting to go in places. My conundrum lies in selecting five minutes to post from between five and six hundred hours of recording. What I end up posting usually depends on my mood on the first of the month.

I think I'm going to have a new (to me) Joplin piece ready for this one. Amazing the kind of time one can have when one is retired smile

Most cities around the world is in lockdown, I thought most people would have a lot more time staying home so they would practice music more. Maybe / maybe not...

I look forward to hearing it. I play Joplin almost every day, he's like a perennial, cheerful flower. Don't know how he managed such ecstasy having such a tragic life.

Somebody here turned me on to Tiersen's "Rue de Cascades". I found some sheet music but it was nothing like what I was hearing on Youtube. So I tossed it and improvised all the way through. Of course the problem of listening to performances on youtube is that some of them are unbelievably fantastic leaving me with a feeling of inadequately. frown But I soldiered on and it may not be great but I had lots of fun doing it.

I should make it this time, I finally bought book 5 of Martha Mier's Jazz, Rags & Blues and there is a nice blues that I might learn in time. I've also been practicing Grieg's Arietta, but the voicing is not right yet.

During the lockdown I’ve been dallying with other composers. I’ve decided that it won’t be Einaudi this time (but I think that Monica would approve of my choice). I hope that this doesn’t scupper Recital 58 … laugh

The recital will open in about a week - actually at 6AM May 1st US Eastern time. I'm an early bird - I think Monica was a night owl. So I prefer opening and closing around 6 AM. Since the recitals are a world-wide phenomenon, it shouldn't matter, right?

I have a long list of new pieces I am working on - and none of them are ready for prime time. Why am I so slow? Maybe I should just focus on one piece...

Sam

I'm the same Sam. I always have too many pieces on the go at once and none of them get the attention they deserve. But i can't seem to help myself when I see something I like that may just be within my grasp it gets added to my list. I need to really focus on my piece for the recital. My morning practise of it today was horrendous, it was much better on the weekend and my one take would have been good enough for the recital except I exceeded the max volume once so there is an annoying noise at that point.
