Hello guys,

I want a metronome for my Piano. I thought - if it is a digital one - those don't really look neat and can't pass through the signal to my pc digitally...
Then I thought - is there a Metronome VSTi? Well yes, there is, but the ones I found weren't that great.

Afterwards I had the idea - I also have a iPad and a iPhone, maybe one of those devices could control a Metronome running on the PC.
But I haven't found something yet.

Why do I want it to run on the PC?
Well, since I use the headphones all the time I thought if it's processed on the host it may be easier to handle - so it's already on my Headphones.

What do you guys know about this Topic? I know Software like PianoTeq have a metronome. But when I'm at the Piano I don't want to fiddle at the PC.

Thanks

My piano has a metronome built-in, you can just turn it on and off and set the speed using a button on the control panel.

I assumed that was a standard function on digital pianos. Am I wrong?

Sorry. I don't have that and don't want it on the digital because audio processing is done on the PC.

When you say you have a MIDI controllor, do you mean one with no piano voices of it's own, like M-Audio, or Kawai VPC1, and you only play software pianos?

Also, are your headphones plugged into the PC? Must be, if the answer to the first question is yes. Aren't there loads of metronome applications available for free?

If you have Synthesia, it has a built-in metronome, which can be turned on or off. You could mute the tracks themselves, and only have the metronome running.

I'm not sure how that would work out if you're playing a virtual piano at the same time, because most of them reserve the audio device for themselves, and don't let any other apps have access to it.

Depends on your system though, if you have an external audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett, Presonus Audiobox, or something similar) that shouldn't be a problem.

Yea, it's a MIDI controller like the VPC1.

Having a RME HDSPe AIO here.

Get one of these. They're MUCH better than the digital kind, and easier to use.

Does it make a difference because I'm getting all the audio via headphones currently. The travel from air to me...
Does it make things 'off'?

I can imagine you could have problems hearing a physical metronome, both because of the headphones blocking external sound, and the piano sound from your playing making it even harder to hear the metronome in front of (or beside) you.

Though I agree with MacMacMac that a real metronome is much nicer, has some charm that a digital thing can never have.

Edit 2 Saw your answer below, yeah, open headphones block less.

I'm at 2,500 posts, hate to spoil that cool number, but I have to throw in this one. I've installed it, and it seems great.

I also had this installed. But needs screen at the piano...
Hows your setup? I don't have a touch monitor at my digital piano place...

I use Pro Metronome on my Android tablet. It has pretty good functionality. I paid for the full version of it.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eumlab.android.prometronome&hl=en_IE

It would appear to be a digital version of a Korg KDM3, but I'm sure that's purely coincidental....

I'd be a far better pianist if I spent the time I'm on this forum playing my piano instead.

I don't have a touch screen either, thought you might just leave it running. Now I understand you don't want to have to fiddle with the computer much, or at all. I hardly use a metronome, prefer to count instead.

OK I'm going off the deep end here but I think you'd really like the Body Beat Sync. It can do what you want but the coolest part is that you can put the vibe clip on your body and feel the beats and accents.
Peterson Body Beat Sync

Now is this what I have? No I actually have the Peterson StroboPlus HD Tuner with the metronome upgrade and the body clip. It's super useful for tuning guitars, etc. and in emergencies I have used it to touch up a few notes on my piano.

I'm concerned about Wireless. How long do you own it? The batteries won't die easily? I like Power supplies...

But I haven't found something yet.

Why not simply use a metronome app on your phone?
