McCoy was a legend, a creative genius whose influence has changed jazz history.
I am so glad to have seen him play half a dozen times

I just can’t believe it! He was the most significant pianist in my life, starting with ILS. I remember his master class in a small room where ten students were sitting, and his phenomenal deep and enveloping sound that did not come out of vinyl and radio at all. MCT was very simple and friendly person ; and left the best memories .

RIP - he was a great pianist.

Unfortunately, I never had a chance to see him play. I ignorantly admit though I am surprised to hear tonight that he had been still with us until now. When I listened to (some of) those legendary old records with Coltrane, I had assumed everyone on them must have been dead a long time ago (like Coltrane and Elvin Jones).

Another very sad loss.

Elvin Jones played on into the 2000s, indeed I saw him at Ronnie Scotts in that era (2000 I think). Sadly I missed an opportunity to see McCoy Tyner in 2001.

Sad news. Of course, be left behind all of that great music from when he was in the John Coltrane Quartet, and his work after. He is the last of the quartet to die. May he Rest In Peace.

I think I saw him play once but I am not sure.

We saw Hank Jones play in Paris, when Hank was 90, if I recall correctly. Hank was living in an assisted living place in New York City. His friends would say, come on, Hank, let’s watch a ball game, and Hank would say, no man, I gotta go practice! Haha.

I tuned for him several times. He was a real gentleman.
