Welcome to another year of MOYD!! MOYD, "Master of Your Own Destiny", is a personal challenge where you commit to playing the piano for some amount of time every single day. It might be a few hours, it might be a few minutes - it doesn't matter - as long as you sit down and touch those keys!!!

It doesn't matter if it is a grand, an upright, or a digital. Nor does it matter if it is your piano or any other. If you are traveling and you come across an available piano and play for five minutes, it counts! Any piano, anywhere, for any amount of time will do the job.

If you miss a day you must come here and say so. Please report AFTER the fact. We only need to know when you DID miss playing - not that you "might not be able to play".

2020 will be the 16th year of MOYD on ABF.

MOYD RULES

1. Participating in MOYD requires you to sit on the piano bench and play something at least once daily. That's it. There is no minimum amount of time required. Five minutes counts... but more is better. Simply get to the piano everyday, let it become a habit, and see what good things happen to your piano skills.

2. If you are away from home (for business, or for personal reasons) , you don't have to practice/play that day. You go to the 'Excused list".

3. If you are sick, you don't have to practice/play. You go to the 'Excused list".

4. If you are at home, and you are not sick and you miss a day, you have to come here and tell us the sad story of what kept you from playing. Then you go to the "Back on the Wagon" list.

5. You may start late - however no new participants are accepted after September 30th. This is a hard deadline in fairness to everyone who has participated all year.

6. Everyone who has reported being away, being sick, falling off and getting back on the wagon, or who signs up late has the right to put the MOYD 2019 badge in their signatures on 31 December 2020.

HOW TO JOIN

Simply reply to this thread declaring your enthusiastic willingness to join in and be committed to the plan! I will check in regularly and update this first page with the information you provide.

Signature pictures will be offered to those who are 2020 MOYD winners. Below you will find the 2019 Siggies, for those who participated in 2019.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADDING IMAGES TO YOUR SIGNATURE:
1. Place your cursor on the desired icon,
2. right click,
3. go to properties,
4. copy the Url, or copy image address
5. go to your profile page signature box,
6. place cursor,
7. click on "enter an image" paste. ( add after. The badge address should read [ img]http://forum.pianoworld.com//gallery/42/medium/10981.png[/img], without the space after the first bracket).
8. save changes

Sad wasn't play by the time last year's rolled out, but enthusiastically signing up for this year's edition! smile

Been playing for just over 6 months now, so still very very green! laugh Have exams coming up soon so won't have as much time to play as I'd like, but definitely still plan on having my daily fix smile

Already have an ongoing daily diary, but can never have enough motivation!

Here's to a great year for everyone joining in smile

For some obscure reason that even I don’t understand, I haven’t been able to commit to checking in to this thread for the past few years. It’s strange, though, because I don’t think I missed more than 3 days per year in the last 2 years aside from being away. No commitment, no badge. frown. Oh well, I’m self accountable.

Keep it up, folks, it makes a huge difference. My oddities aside I think it’s great!

But the odd thing is you could sign up and just excuse yourself for the 3 days and other days you are away. So it's more like a commitment with reasonable caveats.

OK, I was successful in 2019 and this thread definitely made me practice a few times that I wouldn't have. In fact, one time, I was already in bed, it occurred to me I hadn't practiced and that if I stayed in bed, I should post to the thread to excuse myself. Faced with that, I ended up hopping out of bed, sitting down at the piano, and the initial 5 mins I was going to play turned into 60 of piano (and 60 less sleep 😂).

Since MOYD has really worked for me this last year, how can I not sign up? So sign me up for 2020! grin

laugh I can see myself doing that, except that the piano is in the bedroom and Mr. Stubbie would not appreciate my compulsion dedication.

Yes, MOYD can be a very helpful tool for those so inclined.

I've hit my goal of playing every day for 10 years - and I think MOYD helped with that.
My new goal is for a total of 15 years, so .... sign me up!

SwissMs- thanks very much for running this thread - that's an extra commitment to the MOYD concept, and your time and encouragement is appreciated!

Wooo! Great to have you along Tyrone smile Haha that definitely hasn't happened. "Okay I guess I can squeeze in 5 minutes even though I won't really get anything done..." turns into a half hour because you're making some progress, into an hour because you want to get it done, into 2 because it's too soon yet! Hope everything is going great smile

I’ll give it a go, ill health prevents regular scheduled practices, but hopefully this will encouragement to sit at my piano every day even if it’s for a couple of mins or so

Proud to start my 4th year in the MOYD thread, please count me in, SwissMS. I am sorry I will have to start with a blank day as I'm away on holiday, but tomorrow I will be back home and looking forward to restart as usual again. Thank you.

I'm in!

I've taken a sabbatical from the piano over the past couple/few years. I've had a lot going on with my life and just didn't make the time for my musical passions. I've almost finished setting up a music room in the house (good enough to get going). So I'm back at for 2020 on the piano, bass guitar and weight loss. laugh

I have some personal goals for the music I wish to work on, so I'm pretty stoked.
