I wish K300 is a bit lighter or U1 sounds a little richer. I enjoy the sound of K300 but a bit concerned if my son or myself get finger tired after playing half an hour or so, as I had this experience before on a different piano and couldnot get used to it (had it for 3 years or so). I have also heard from another family whose 10 year old girl complains that her k300 is too tiring and refuses to practice time to time, especially on fast pieces and scales. She has been practicing for 4 years.

Both pianos are excellent instruments and a very good choice for your purpose. The complaints by the 10-year-old girl are only excuses, now she got to the point when piano-technique requires more time and effort, the real training as it occurs with everything in life.
Be practical, and chose the piano you like better, you can't go wrong with either. Hopefully, you and your family embrace playing piano as part of life and perhaps you can upgrade to a grand piano in which the touch will be different by the way. Yamaha or Kawai hold their re-sale or trade-in value which is also a plus.

I have a U1 and spent a lot of time trying out a K300 as the other alternative before I bought it. There are certainly differences but I would not say that touch weight was high up the list of things I noticed.

I strongly suspect there could be as many or more differences between two differently set up or maintained U1s or K300s than between one model and the other.

And stay away from a lifestyle where troubles always brewin’
But, yea, I like rappin’ too
Whether regular or gangsta, either one will do
So, I guess I’ll stick with boogie and blues
At least for now, since I get a lot of YT views
I hope to hear soon that CATPIANOTTT can find
A piano that suits them, heart, soul and mind… smile

Believe it or not, this story is true
But I've probably said enough for both me and you... smile

Thanks, Lady Bird, j&j, WeakLeftHand, U3piano and all. smile

I was just having a little fun with poetic rhyme, while telling a story all at the same time. But I'll stop with the rhyme for now. smile

I have indeed had interactions with former Rapper/Hip-Hop artists, who used to own recording studios in the Atlanta area, a major hub for Rap/Hip-Hop music. But I'll hold off on telling that story for now, because I've horned in on CATPIANOTTT's tread enough already, and for that I do apologize.

But, I'll have to admit, the "Gangsta Ricksta" thing made me laugh and smile... and, at my age, that is a good thing, at least for a while. smile

Now back to comparisons of U1s and K300.

To all who have replied to my post, thank you very much for all your helpful input!
Sorry I’ve been away for the past few days, here is an update.
I eventually bought k300, the key touch is just a tiny bit heavier than what I wanted but I think I will get used to it!

Rickster, I had fun reading your rhyming style. Quite the talent you’ve got! :-)

Congratulations on your new Kawai K300 piano, CATPIANOTTT!

Post pictures of your new piano when you can. We always love to see pics of newly acquired pianos, new or pre-owned. smile

And, thanks for the compliments on my rhyming style, and please forgive the silliness. But sometimes a good laugh or smile is like a dose of medicine. smile

All the best!

Rick

Congratulations on your new Kawai. Most likely in a couple weeks you’ll have gotten used to playing your Kawai and chuckle to yourself about the concern over the somewhat heavier key weight. 😁 One of the other nice things that will happen is when you play a different piano at someone’s home or a recital, you’ll more quickly adapt to the different piano because now your hands and fingers are stronger. That’s what I discovered when I changed from my GB1 to C3! Congrats again!

Oh and as your piano is being delivered you might want to take pictures or videos of the delivery for your memory book. We on PW love looking at pianos being placed in their new homes. A piano delivery is really a big deal in a piano lover’s life.
Best Wishes!

Thank you Rick and J&J for your good wishes and reminding of photos. I cannot wait for the delivery in 10 days. I will need to remember to take picture in the excitement on the delivery day!
