The networked approach seems iffy - Bluetooth directly to the VPC1 would be preferred. I would be using an adapter that fits into the “real†midi ports of the VPC1.
As far as I’ve been able to read the VPC1 supports both usb and “real†midi ports simultaneously but it would be great to have this confirmed.
James - would you happen to know if this will work ?
Yes, this will work. The USB and MIDI ports can be used simultaneously - one of my colleagues uses this configuration with his VPC1 at home (Quiccosound mi.1 in the MIDI IN/OUT to pair with iPad, USB-MIDI to connect to Mac). I believe it should work like this out of the box, but if not, you can tweak the MIDI routing via the VPC Editor software. In addition, you can also configure the 5 preset memories for specific touch curves, velocity offsets, and MIDI routing, so would be able to toggle between iPad, Mac, or both with individual key presses.
The key parts would be having the midi ports active while the VPC1 powered by the USB port - not using the power adapter.
Ah, that's a separate topic. You may find there is insufficient power from the USB bus to also power the BLE adaptor connected to the MIDI ports. Is there a reason you wish to avoid using the power adapter?
