I don't know which fingers I am supposed to use after the mordent, 4/2 really?

Thank you.

You can play mordent with 3-5-4, and a third C-E - with 2,3.

It is not a mordent, it is a short trill starting on G. And yes 4/2 is one good option.

The sign used in the little prelude always designate a trill (short or long) along with another equivalent sign: tr. The baroque mordent is always with a bar cross and is with a lower auxillliary. In Baroque music a Pralltriller is not an upper mordent, it is another ornament which has some similarities but is used in a different context. In some cases, the trill can be shortened for example when there is an appogiatura a step above or in quick descending stepwise sequences in which case the trill becomes a 3 notes trill starting on the main note. The schneller seems to be an ornament which was notated with small notes and not with the trill sign and this names seems to appear for the first time in CPE Bach treatise (c. 1753-1762). In any case it was rarely used.

The french naming Mordant is a modern one. In french baroque music the proper term was "pincé" and the trill was called "tremblement".

I’ve played these as mordents also, as instructed by my teacher and by the Henle guide in the beginning of the Little Prelude book.

Regarding the fingering, the 2-4 jump back over the 1-3 to play those notes. I think it’s correct and just takes a little practice.

This is extracted from the prelude BWV925 bar 14. In the Henle edition this sign is indeed referenced as a trillo and not as a mordant which is always played with a lower auxilliary in Bach.

CPE Bach’sTreatise on ornamentation is a good reference to use for baroque music
Reference in link below shows this notation as trillo

I'd agree 4/2 there is a great option. If you're doing a 1,2-3 with the ornament then getting in position for the 4-2 involves a 2 over 1 crossover action - a mainstay of keyboard technique and something you will no doubt find second nature with a bit of practice..

Yes, you’re correct - I misread the squiggle frown
