Regards, One of the YouTube videos shows the score so I kept pausing, using the snipping tool, copying and pasting. Not sure about the ethics of it but it was in the public domain.

FYI, Just because it appears in a YT video, in public, does not make it "Public Domain." Unless the composer specifically makes it so, the CR lasts between 70 and 80 years AFTER they die. Hamlin is still very much alive and desirous of selling copies of his compositions I am sure.

Mike, I've only worked on the first page of 25/12 so far. It's not too bad as long as I remember to hop instead of reaching for notes. My biggest obstacle so far is memorizing the patterns of the arpeggios going up. The ones that go down are much easier. Shaping it and getting it up to tempo will be its own challenge.
I think of the piece as a collection of cruel variations on Op. 10 No. 1 for the left hand, far moreso than Godowsky's actual left hand transcription of the work, and I really do think it works better around that tempo as well. For me, that makes it nearly impossible.

Ben your rendition of the Blumenfeld is, as usual, beautiful. Thank you for the offer to lend the book but I think I've found what I need on IMSLP including your Blumenfeld, which I will take a serious look at.
For now, besides the Chopin-Godowsky 25/12, I think I'm going to give Bruce's "Norma" and Ben's Blumenfeld a try.
Thanks for all the help! Thanks! That Hamelin/Tchaikovsky transcription is very impressive - somehow I hadn't heard it before. I started working on Rachmaninoff's transcription of the same piece recently though. I think learning two transcriptions of the same piece would just confuse me.

There are several concertos and concert pieces besides the Ravel. Prokofiev, Hindemith, Britten, Richard Strauss, Bax, Korngold, and some others. You can also try music for other solo instruments, like the Bach violin and cello pieces.

I think I've settled on the Chopin-Godowsky 25/12 and the Tchaikovsky-Hamelin for sure. It's still a tossup between the Blumenfeld and the Norma transcription.

I am recovering from surgery to fix a torn ligament in my right wrist. I started working on the Chopin-Godowsky etude 25/12. I worked on the Bach-Brahms Chaconne in the past. I don't have an orchestra so the Ravel concerto is out. I've been searching YouTube and IMSLP for other left hand ideas but nothing has grabbed me yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for music you love that is just for the left hand? I've got to keep myself entertained for 6 weeks. (And by the way, avoid putting in screws with your wrist in an awkward position!) If you can get BBC Radio3 online then tonight UK time you can hear Ravel's piano concerto for the left hand. Don't know if this is an option for you, but certain digitals have pre-recorded pieces in which you can turn off either hand. After right hand surgery a few years ago, I was able to play long with the righthand part using left hand alone. It kept me playing during recovery.

Why don't you transcribe some pieces into left hand only yourself? You can do it! I think you will learn a lot in the process.
