So the kawai es8 is 1649usd at sweetwater

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...-digital-piano-with-speakers-gloss-black

thought I'd share with everyone, means maybe a new kawai es8 update on the way?

Also that is really cheap compared to 2grand ptag.

Good catch, Jitin! Higher-end slabs really hit the sweet spot for value, in my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ES9 is revealed at Musikmesse in early April. Kawai announced no new products at the recent NAMM winter show, and the newer Yamaha P-515 and Roland FP-90 are formidable competitors.

Plus, I think our own Kawai James usually attends Musikmesse and he is the best at such product presentations!

It's also possible that the price has been discounted to better match the street prices of the FP 90 and P 515 and no model update is imminent.

Hi Jitin,

This price drop isn't necessarily relevant: aren't USA prices higher for the ES8 anyway?

There are a number of reasons why the release of the ES9 is unlikely:

1) Are Kawai going to update their sound technology and launch this update with the ES9?
**Currently the ES8 has the latest SK grand piano sounds, why would Kawai release a new model using existing sounds?

2) The RHIII action fits nicely within the ES8 case. If Kawai release an ES8SE using the original case, it will have to have an action that fits that case.

3) The RHIII action arguably is close to if not as good as the PHA50 action and competitive with the Yamaha P515's action. Is there a competitive reason to upgrade the action? Probably not.

Unless Kawai have a new sound chip and sampled piano, I'm not sure what the competitive drive is towards releasing an update.
Maybe they'll release an ES9 as the first instrument with their latest sampling technology; however, I'm not betting on that eventuality.
I think it more likely that the CS12 will be released with Kawai's new Piano sounds first before the tech trickles down into the portable range.

Of course, it maybe possible that the CS12 is coming out along side the ES9: are any other Kawai models dropping in price?

Kind regards,

Doug

Use higher slabs with internal speakers is my favorite kind of piano, especially for the price

While the ES8 is a formidable DP, I very much prefet Kawai's wooden actions to their plastic ones. A VPC1 costs about as much as the ES8 but offers superior action. It does not have a tone generator in it, but that's what VSTs are for. Ofcourse if having a builtin tone generator is absolutely necessary, the VPC1 is not ideal.

In that case I'd probably go for the MP11SE or CA48 console. The CA48 was advertised at 2099 on sweetwater last time i checked, not that much more expensive than the VPC1 or the older ES8 price. I'm sure you can get it to come down further in price with some haggling.

I'm not sure if I would consider the CA48 as an alternative to the ES8. While the CA48 has a better action, the ES8 has a better sound chip. The CA48 also does not have a line-in socket, so running a VST through the speakers is out of the question.

That's all well and good, but the VPC weighs 65 pounds, which is just too much to lug around. The ES8 at 49 is already pushing it...

The VPC1 was literally build for a niche market. The ES8 was literally build for a mass market.

I have only attended Musikmesse on two occasions:in 2016 to present the CS-X1 prototype, and 2017 to present the NV10 preview (accompanied by the excellent pianist Ayano Entani on both occasions). However, thank you for your kind words. wink

Kind regards,
James

Interesting. I believe this is the first time I've seen someone preferring a Kawai plastic-key action to a Kawai wooden-key action. May I ask why you were not impressed with the GFC action, and why you found it to be inferior to RHIII (in the ES8)?

Kind regards,
James

I thought that the rh3 on the es8 or cn37 played like butter, real smooth, and easy to control, the gfc just didn’t do it for me, though I can’t quite recall why exactly , similarly though I also to some degree preferred es8 action to regular grand feel , because the regulars grand feel upper keys are sponges and bouncey ( ca78)

But I can’t remember why I didn’t like gfc /specifically

Es8 and Yamahas nwx might be my favorite so far, though I never got to try clp585 with nwx and linear Counter weights and all

Looks like they just adjusted it. It's been 1300€ here for a long time now.
I do hope for an ES9 though.
