What is the logic behind the CD numbering scheme? Is it only used C&A instruments? Is it sequential? Are numbers reused?

The numbers are reused as pianos from the bank are "retired". For example a CD101 may remain in the bank for 5 or maybe 15 years if it is preferred by a prominent pianist.

That’s what I thought. So then there could be quite a few Steinways with the same CD number stamped on the plate where the serial number normally appears. Only one would be in the C&a bank and the others retired. Retirees would better be referred to by serial number I guess.
