Hello, I am an older adult with about four years piano, learning from a quality online jazz program for the last three years. I feel like my progress is too slow without a physical teacher. I have a good friend who could help but he is two hours away. Living between LA and Orange county in So. Calif., someone in Long Beach, Whittier, or North Orange County area would be ideal. I took a few lessons from a delightful young lady, but she teaches classical vocal and piano to kids. She attempted to teach me the same way. I found it not worthwhile. I have studied a bit of theory and read fairly well. I would place myself as early intermediate. (grade 4?) I am retired and practice for several hours a day.

Please send a private message if you are interested. A daytime lesson on a weekday, either at my home or preferably at your studio focusing on learning cocktail piano, standards, Broadway, etc.

How about someone in southwest Lakewood near the airport? She seems to teach what you're looking for. Sandra M. Barba.

Also in Lakewood is Morey's music. They have a large-ish sheet music dept and they keep a list of referrals including piano.

Up here in Mar Vista, Culver City, Westwood etc, I'm seeing more and more teachers offering lessons in the non-classical idioms.

Good luck,

Kurt

Kurtz, Thank you for responding. I would like a teacher close by. But Rob Mullins contacted me and although he is not so close, he can give me lessons on Skype. And maybe I will meet with him sometime in his studio or my home if he is out this way. I am sort of intimidated that he would even consider me as a student. He is an amazing jazz pianist.
