I getting back into playing the piano after a long absence. I am looking for some suggestions for pieces to play. My favorite piece that I used to play all the time was Intermezzo Op 118, No. 2 in A Major by Brahms, which I am relearning now. Love that one!
Any suggestions for pieces of similar difficulty, and particularly stuff that has more complex harmonic content. Post romantic material would be awesome, but I'm really clueless about what works I could work on that will sound beautiful and not be overly difficult.
All suggestions welcome.

Ok on the Preludes although they are great exercises. I didn't really like how the person played the early pieces but just wanted you to hear them. They can really be beautiful and aren't overly difficult. He wrote them when he was 17 and 18 years old while still living in Russia. Steve

Definitely like the Scriabin and Debussy! I will give the chopin Nocturnes a look though Chopin to me always sounds a bit tied to earlier classical styles to my ears in some way...I like more chromaticism generally speaking, but those are definitely beautiful and would not kill me to learn at least one of them.

The Chopin Opus 48 No. 1 and the Scriabin Opus 11 No. 11 are MUCH more difficult that the other pieces mentioned.

Such a beautiful recording you linked to for the D major; but why did you pair it with a clunky sounding, synthetic Disklavier version of the Gb? Just my opinions here, of course, but was that intentional? -J

No, just really, really tired after working my second double shift in two days. I spent too much time looking for the first and then I just posted the link for the first result I came to for the G-flat. (Didn't bother listening to it.) You might try all the other late pieces by Brahms, starting with the 118.
There are many other very beautiful pieces like this after op.76, too many to list really.
