I was looking for the sheet music for his Elegie No. 1, Op.3 and came across an old/used book on Amazon.com. It has finally arrived!

Apparently this book belonged to a guy called Richard M. Geddes? born in Germany, Oct. 24, 1960. No idea when the book was printed.

In it are some pieces I am not familiar with apart from him C# minor prelude and Elegie. I had a search and listen to them on Youtube and none of them are particularly appealing to me. Did a quick wikipedia search and found that these pieces, Op. 3 Morceaux de fantaisie and Op. 10 Morceaux de salon, were written in 1892 and 1894 (when he was 21 and 23 years old). That means during or shortly after he graduated from Moscow Conservatory.

Anyone takes a liking to any of these pieces apart from his C# minor prelude and Elegie?

Hi Tubbie! Thanks for sharing these pieces. I'd never heard any of them before besides the elegie and the prelude!

I found this version of the melodie 3/3 which I think is beautiful:

I also quite like the nocturne 10/1

And the waltz:

The romance 10/6 is different but beautiful:

The Polichinelle 3/4 is weird but then I found a video of Richter playing it and I thought wow! Not something I'd ever try to learn but to see/hear him play it is pretty awesome!

Thanks for the links Valencia. I've seen them from YouTube but of different pianists.

I'm off to learning Elegie now. My goal is to learn it in 2 months while practising other pieces. Then I'll keep refining it along with the others and likely to pick it for my exam next year :-)

Bloody C-flat! Gets me all the time!

Preliminary selection of exam pieces:
- Rachmaninov Prelude No. 12
- Bach Prelude & Fugue No. 9 in E, WTC Book 2
- Mozart Sonata K330
- Ravel La vallée des cloches
- Rachmaninov Elegie No. 1

That should hopefully make up the minimum required 30 minutes of performance time :-P
