Hello everyone!

Im new in this forum.
My name is Benny,22yo, im from Sweden, and Im going to begin my studies at the royal college of music in Stockholm this autumn.

This made me want to upgrade from my Old Nordiska Futura upright to this schimmel grand piano that will set me (and partly my mother) back 9500 euros.

This instrument is completely factory restored, year is 1982, new laquer new hammers, strings etc. I just tried it and instantly fell in love with it.

Is the price right? It is 5'7" in length. I get 3 years guarantee from retailer.

Thank you for your advice beforehand. Not a lot of instruments available up here in north

I don't want to talk,
About things we've gone through,
But I've got to say,
The price seems quite OK....

Best wishes for your studies!
The piano looks beautiful and the 3 year guarantee from the dealer sounds good. Most of all I like that you fell in love with this piano. Schimmel makes great pianos.

Cheers!

If is sounds as good as it looks it's a winner! Enjoy.

If you love the sound go for it. I've had my Schimmel grand since 1988 and it has been a steadfast friend. Wonderful undertones and coloration and very stable. Sorry, but can't comment on the price.

It looks like the piano no longer has Renner hammers, they've been replaced by Abel hammers. That could be a problem, I know nothing about those hammers (but Renner are top).

This is not a problem, pF. Abel makes a fine hammer.

The only issue with the Abel hammers is that they harden up pretty fast with heavy playing. If the piano is in your house, you may want to soften them every year or two so the piano doesn't become overly loud.

My Seiler has Abel hammers, and this approach works well.

I believe that Abel customises hammers for the top tier pianos including Schimmel Braunschweig, Seiler Kitzingen, and my Blüthner Leipzig.

I have not read elsewhere about the need to soften Abel hammers. They are not factory doped but can be on request.
