I'm looking at building a custom action, and possibly (eventually) a custom instrument from scratch.
I looked at WNG and like the idea of composite materials, but they told me they can only sell to pro technicians (PTG registered, I guess). My subsequent request for a tech recommendation in my area was ignored.
Is there a tech near 79360, or perhaps an online store that does sell to the average tinkerer? TIA

You probably want to repost this in the Digital Piano forum, and use the ordinary topics area, not the Frequently Asked Questions, which are looked at less often (go figure) -- But perhaps I'm totally off base and, despite your owning digital pianos, you want to build a traditional wood-and-metal piano from scratch -- in which case, welcome to the TunerTech forum!

I do currently own a DP, however I'm not blown away by the keybed. I find that I don't really have the motivation to play or practice when it doesn't respond as a real piano does, especially now as I'm trying to hone my skills/technique.
I am looking to build 1) an experimental acoustic piano from scratch, and 2) a true grand action with concert grand length keys and actual hammers, etc... which would be coupled to an optical sensor rail for standard MIDI output to play a software pianos like Pianoteq.
I did find a few techs about 60-70 miles from me via PTG. Living in a smaller town I'm used to having to travel an hour+ for most things. I sent an email to the nearest one, I'm hoping he can help me with action parts. While I want to eventually experiment with making the action as well, for the time being I'm interested in getting my hands on standard parts.
I like to build things. Given the option of spending $10k on a piano, or the same amount into parts and tools to make it myself, I would choose the latter simply for the experience and satisfaction.

Good luck on your project -- it sounds as if you're very clear on what you enjoy, a wonderful bit of self-knowledge. Keep in touch with the TunerTech board!

If you go to the WNG site and register, I suspect you would be able to purchase parts.

We retail WN&G parts to non-technicians. Send me a PM.
