Hi Everyone,

Leif Ove Andsnes will be performing a solo recital in San Francisco next week, and I had the chance to speak with him about a number of things. He talks about why he's never recorded Medtner, Chopin (he did not follow the competition last month), and pop music.

PS: I've moved our interviews to another site, as I've received many complaints about the advertisements on Examiner.com. There are no pop-ups here smile

Thanks - it's always interesting to hear the current thoughts of top notch musicians like him.

I was a little sorry to hear that he wasn't finding Medtner all that interesting. I'm beginning to think there's a special sort of problem with Medtner for many people - something quite elusive about how his music works.

And what about Szymanowski? I thought he was going to talk about that composer, but nada.

Thank you all for reading the interview (and for your very kind comments)!

wr: Couldn't agree more about your Medtner comment, and I've always enjoyed re-reading the Szymanowski bits in Rubinstein's autobiography. If memory serves, Rafal Blechacz is a fan...!

Thank you very much. I saw one documentary about him where he was playing Mussorgsky while water was rushing around him. I guess the grand piano submerged in water.
