OP krauster Full Member K Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 28	I am a beginner. I had a year of piano lessons 50 years ago so I can read music very very slowly. But haven't played much for many years. I just bought a digital piano. CGP700. It feels great and sounds great. I love it. There will be a lot to learn to use a tenth of its functionality. But mostly what I want to learn is how to play a little Brazilian music along with recordings. I really like Ivan Lins's music. From his latest album I love this song, Luxo Do Lixo (a few versions on youtube, https://goo.gl/bJN3Ag http://goo.gl/pVY91c). I can't find sheet music for it. I want to learn the chords. I have a pretty good ear and might be able to slowly pick out what's going on. But very slowly. Any ideas how to find the notes on the recording? I take it that music software can't analyze and display the notes.

If you think you can make a stab at transcribing this you'll be well rewarded, no matter how long it takes you, you'll get faster at it and it will measurably improve your musicianship. The chords aren't too tricky and the bass is simple enough to underline all the roots. Have a go, I'm sure if you get stuck there'll be some help available. youtubes

I clicked on the link that you provided and it takes me to a yahoo search page and the fourth link is to a song by Paula Santaro (never heard of her but have heard the song). I don't see the "guy and piano". Maybe the search shows different results now. By the way I like your statement of getting the hands to dance together. That is good imagery as I try to do that.

You know what, I don't think the recording is there now either but here's a Lins ballad I find interesting albeit slower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV_kAtwUIP0 ... and down the page you may discover something a little brisker. Yep, the ears start getting pretty good at moving the hands just like they do the feet. I have to really listen closely to what and when I strike the tones with both hands on a lot of stuff until I get that rhythmic dance down solid ... fun stuff working it out tho.
