I'm new to the forum. I recently upgraded my keyboard to a Kawai MP11. I'm having some difficulty finding a stand for this beast. The Kawai will be home based. The stand needs to be rock solid. I have a 4 and 5 year old that will be playing on it as well. My main concern is that it not tip over while the kids are practicing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Another stand to consider is the Stellar Labs 555-13830 Heavy Duty Keyboard Stand with Adjustable Width & Height. The Stellar Labs stand is an amazing buy for approximately $45 USD (including shipping) on Amazon. It is built like a tank and it does not sound like you need the capability of the stand to fold for transport or to support the addition of a second tier like the much more expensive (approx $200) K&M stand. I have one at home for my MP7 but this stand will easily support a keyboard larger and heavier than your MP11. Also, its height can adjust sufficiently low so that the tops of the keys can be at optimal height (approx 28-1/2 in) when seated, which is not true for many stands. I'd suggest reading the reviews on Amazon at the following link:

Thank you all for the responses. I was also looking at the K&M 18810 Omega Table-Style Keyboard Stand. I'm thinking 4 legs might be more sturdy with kids around though.

disagree, better buy a 18950, it better fits the mp11 width and it's the same price !

Yes, I agree: 18950 for the MP11, 18953 for the MP7.

Again, Thank You for all the input. I think i'm going with the 18950. It seems to be the best fit for the mp11. It's a few inches taller then I would like but I have an adjustable bench for my kids so it shouldn't be a problem. Still saving up for that grand piano. I think I will be happy with the mp11 for now.

I wouldn't be happy getting a stand that is taller than standard piano height, particularly if kids are using it (they're going to need to reach those pedals...)

There are other threads here detailing how people by have ended up sawing off the bottoms of their stands to get the to an acceptable height. Best off making sure it's right before you buy it.

The following thread from JoeF last December (and referenced last week) may also be worth checking:

No problem for that. I know here some MP11's owners who bought K&M 18953 (for example). And they are absolutely satisfied (I have asked them in private messages). Their MP11 is absolutely stable on K&M 18953.

The problem is K&M 18950 is too high even in its minimum height. And if you will put such keyboards like MP11 on it, the keyboard's level will be higher, than keyboards on most real acoustic pianos. That's why I wouldn't recommend this keyboard stand for real pianists. And I saw a lot of comments on this forum from people who complain about this issue. I'm sure that is K&M's fault.

That's why, like some people here, I would recommend K&M 18953 instead of K&M 18950. I wrote with more details here .

Upd: Oh, that's also for kids? The more do not recommend 18950!

What about a Roland KS-G8?

Much classier looking than the K&M stands in my opinion. It's sturdy and the right height. For a static stage piano I think you'd struggle to beat it. Expensive but it's only got to be bought once. I've used all my stage pianos on it including a Kawai MP10.

Lower, than K&M 18950, but higher, than K&M 18953. Less flexible for adjusting to uneven surfaces. Usually table-type keyboard stands can be adjusted by every positioning points (i.e. all four legs can be presicely adjustable which gives that stability on any kind of surfaces).

Looks bulky, reminds me water pipes, tube on the floor attracts too much attention and takes much space. Sure this is my personal opinion. Still prefer K&M's products for more classical and practical design which looks for me more organic and elegant with stage pianos, especially with such as MP11/MP7.

The front feet are adjustable on the Roland. They screw in or out to accommodate slight variations in floor surfaces. The OP stated their piano will be home based. The K&M ones have spindly little legs and look engineer designed. The Roland stands have been designed with some regard to aesthetic matters as well. Just my opinion.

I'm back from a well deserved holiday.

Go for the 18950.

It is the sturdiest stand and perfect for the MP11.
I have chopped off 5 Centimetres from mine and it is just now just perfect.
This suggestion may seem like a hassle but it's easy.
Any metal workshop will do it for you
Should cost ten $ or less.

If you are a gigging musician watch out for the rubber feet.
They are easy to lose.
Always check before you pack up after the gig.
I've lost one of them already.

Good luck.

Aah Oooook. I've got the joke.

I was referring to my K&M 18950 though. Cutting 5 Centimetres from each leg would give it a floor to keys height of 71 Centimetres. Which some consider to be a perfect height.

Since the subject I was addressing was the K&M 18950,
I thought it would have been self evident that " chopped off" referred to the stand.

No that wasn't a joke, I meant it about 18950 keyboard stand. I'd like to say what K&M's fault forcing users to do by themselves. And again, this is just ridiculous. I wouldn't do it under any circumstances. Maybe for someone this is really easy. But for me it would be a problem. I better would look for other product.

Anyway, I contacted several times to K&M and informed them about this problem. They took this into account and promised to take certain actions in the future.

If you look at the wording of the descriptions, the 18950 is described as a "Table-style keyboard stand", whereas the the 18953 is a "Table-style stage piano stand". Keyboards are generally played standing up, and pianos sitting down, so it seems it's all about choosing the right stand for the job. It's not so ridiculous, because the 18950 wasn't designed to be used with pianos.

Oh, I see. Well, I made sure I made the right choice (18953) and the right recommendation for Nate32 and for most of those, who needs keyboard stage piano stand.

But I can't remember when I saw that someone was standing behind a full-sized 88-key keyboard, on which is obviously this sturdy and dimensional keyboard stand is designed. And I beleive that this kind of stands must meet different usage scenarios, and must have some spare (I mean reserve, sorry for my English). K&M 18953 is that kind, because it allows to perform comfortably whether sitting ot standing. And that's why I (and some other people here) called K&M 18953 stage piano stand as the best choice to date.
