So im planning on going to NAMM again on Sat. I found this exhibitor in the NAMM directory for piano related exhibitors..

http://www.grandillusionpianoshells.com/index.html

I may stop by and check it out the second time around.. it is just for aesthetics.. anyone seen this before?

If they hand out a price sheet pass on that information here. They don't publish their prices online.

That`s a great idea, and can be taken further. Like the addition of a great stereo speaker system . .. I bet you`d get natural resonances (not always wanted, but never mind) too . . .

And the cost? You could make one yourself, you know - that`d be fun!

Somebody on here did it already. There was a dead piano they had, with a cracked soundboard. So they gutted the inside and stuck a stripped down digital piano in there and stuck a bunch of powerful speakers in it.

This is mostly for stage look. I don't see any home market for this. Therefore, the price tag can not be cheap.

$2500 for the upright shell

$2600 for 3 foot grand piano shell and it goes up $200 for every foot over that.. 6' is the longest they have.

Very cool idea - definitely a project suited to the VPC1.

Something similar was already carried-out by Fineline (UK company), who were commissioned to mount an MP8 into an RX-5 grand piano cabinet.

I did a bit of wood work in the 00s.

I think it isn't that difficult though time consuming.

My biggest worry with woodworking for a grand piano would be the single piece of curved wood which wraps around the harp section. I've never been able to make bendy wood with any great sucess. I'd probably start off with a massive piece and plane it down and cheat that way!

Blimey; for £2k you can get a Digiano Grand. Sounds good, keyboard not so, but it looks stunning! If I had the room, I`d be sorely tempted. . . for that reason only!
