Hi,

I just bought an upright and it will come tomorrow early morning. However, I forgot to buy piano wheel caster cups and I don't live close to any music stores. Where can I buy piano wheel caster cups? (it's already 4:30 pm in here...)

Is it ok if I don't have piano wheel caster cups? My house uses carpet. Or should I buy another carpet to put under the piano, in case the wheels leave holes / marks in the carpet?

Thank you so much for your help!

If you have carpet, caster cups will leave a much bigger dent in the carpet than the piano wheel will. If you move the piano in a year or two, dents in the carpet will be apparent, and large dents from caster cups are much harder to remove from carpet than smaller dents from piano wheel. If your carpet is white, piano wheels can in some cases discolor the carpet, so some type of barrier is good. My clients often use a small plastic square between the carpet and wheel.

You could use a small square of carpet instead of plastic. If your carpet is dark colored, caster stains are not very prominent.

Why do you need to buy? They are supposed to be 'free' when you buy a piano. Give the dealer a call tell them to send the caster cups along with the piano... and also a bottle of cleaner.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your professional advice. I'm going to buy a small carpet to put between the current carpet and the piano. And on top of this I want to put a heavy duty felt pad and am wondering if it works:

For the small plastic square you mentioned, are they the same as caster cups?

Thanks again!

StarryNight, probably of no interest, but when I moved my piano to another location on carpet, I used my commercial laundry steamer to steam the carpet and get rid of the indentations. I know that you can buy handheld models for very little. I had previously heard that ice cubes did the same thing, but it never worked for me. Hopefully, you found some caster cups in short order. I have the three caster per leg units, and they put huge dents in the carpet.
Best, thetandyman
