André Oorebeek's hammer voicing manual "The Voice of the Piano" is now available in Japanese. The translation was expertly done by Yoshitake Suzuki, director of the Piano Service Dept, Yamaha USA.

Being the original publisher and the licensor to the Japanese publisher, I recently received some advance copies of the book. Now André's work can be accessed by thousands of Japanese piano technicians!

The French version of this already classic text is due out very soon as well.

Congratulations André!

(Sorry about the large photo, I know a smaller one would have sufficed. For some reason this is the size it displayed, even though the file is only 500 kb.)

Cannot refrain : those hammers have too short tails, that strikes me.
Most generally hammers of that size have the "B" shape and are used on old type Renner action. This could also be for an older Yamaha model and if it is the case the tails have to be longer. Long heads are not always availeable with the US shape.

Well. This have not much to do with the content of the book. On the older type of actions and whippens it is better to keep the original head shape, to me. (new hammer shape goes well along with new whippens, and new capstan position is often necessary)
The tails shaping is indeed less easy , but the type of acceleration of those older actions goes along with the tone, to me.
Particularely sensitive on old Bechteins, me find, with the rounding of tone something is lost.

Prior to any major voicing work I always review this book or the DVD. Often there are reminders for me….

I just said that about the hammers of the picture, which have that strange parameter to me. Nothing related to the book and the DVD which are indeed excellent
