Hi everybody. I'm new here. My name is David.
I'm a beginner playing piano and i'd like learn,I've been reading a lot about DP and i'd like some good piano for a few years.
My choices are two:
Kawai ca 63 = 2000€ with transport but without mount.
Yamaha clp 470 = 2000€ include a adjustable pianobench (i don't know brand ,sure it's bad) and mounted at my home.

Kawai pros
-I think kawai has better touch (RM3 Grand mechanic)
-more sounds 60 (kawai) vs 28 Voices(yamaha)
-In theory better loudspeaker 2x50w vs 2x40w (yamaha)
-Virtual technician ( i think you can simulate others pianos) has yamaha something similar?

Yamaha pros
-Better sound the first time i listened, but is very subjective , it's like more bright.
-more polyphony 256-note (yamaha) vs 192 (kawai )

I think the other features are more or less the same(recording, piano lessons, etc ).
Today i played the kawai and had the impression that the volume was low. Then the volume of yamaha will be lower.

I have a lot of doubts to choose one , because of the price and the features. Maybe i forgot a lot of things .let me know.
My favourite at the moment is Kawai but i'd like advices of the people with more experience than me. It's a very difficult decision for me.
I'll be very grateful with your comments.
Thanks very much.
I see you in the forum.

hi David

DP are generally tunable with respect to overall sound signature (and no doubt you can do more with virtual technician), I recommend you play around with the specific settings on the Kawai to see if you can make it sound more to your taste

I have a CLP470, just bought it, I put a review up of it on here, on page 4 of 5 I think. The speaker system is awful in the bass range so beware, the bass notes sound muffled and poor quality at louder volumes, its a shame as the mid-range and upper ranges are beautiful. they did a real poor job in terms of the speaker system and bass range, they dont work together.

I owned a Roland HP307 but it sounds more false than any of them, a dull and flat characterless tone hides behind a wall of impressive digital sampling and speaker system.

I own a CA63 since the end of August and am very pleased!
The action is good, as are the grand piano sounds. (I do not care about "fancy" soundbanks)

I assume when you say "better touch" you mean that you have tried both and liked the action on the Kawai better. If so, definitely get that one. Touch trumps sound quality every time, especially as a practice instrument.

They are both going to sound good enough to satisfy. And down the road you could change the sounds by using a software piano or something if you really want to. Can't ever change an action.

I just bought a CA63, it is wonderful in touch, sound ( if you don´t like you can use another sample through a computer or change via technician). The best thing is the engineers make updates every time. From 1.0 version (factory release) to 1.09 at the moment. Thanks to Kawai James for the news. So the Kawai people offer these updates to make even better our instrument.
I vote to CA63.
Best regards

Another vote for... Kawai! smile

I have got one from August and very happy with it. Rich touch and many sound possibilities.

some of the criteria you base your decision on is, to many people including myself, not important. The difference in polyphony between the two is not worth thinking about in the slightest, also the amount of sounds as you will only play the piano sound after a while.

Like I said, just beware of the speaker system on the yamaha, its not great, the Kawai will be superior, and the speakers are one of the most important criteria to consider with a digital piano, unless you have the cash to get seperate quality speakers.

Also I can tell not all keys are sampled individually on the yamaha some notes dont sound like they belong on the piano, but on another cheaper version or something, very strange. However I love the actual tone of the yamaha, I think its beautiful and playing keys loud gives a lovely bright satisfying tone, much more easy on the ears than my Roland HP307, which sounded thinner and too false at higher tone volumes. So a criteria you missed out is the sampling of the piano and if all keys are sampled individually, I consider that important myself.

I vote for the Kawai CA63, mainly because of the great natural keyboard action!

Thanks people.
Yes mucci that's my intention , don't test forever - play and enjoy but i have many doubts because people told me that the yamaha clp 470 is high-end and is much better than the midrange kawai.
Is that true?
See u

Who told you that? wink If you leave out the Avantgrands then the CLP480 and CA93 are to be compared directly in that case i.m.h.o.

Hi TADutchman. How are you?
So your advice is? should i buy the kawai ca 63 ?
which one is better ? leaving the brand apart or the own preferences.
yamaha clp 470 and kawai ca 63 are in the same range? (midrange)
i need a little nudge.
thanks very much.
See u.

Hi Osiris6661, I'm fine thanks.

Yes, I'm sure that the Kawai CA63 is an excellent buy with good support from Kawai and also at the forum. I must honestly say that I haven't played a CLP470 myself though, so I cannot directly compare, but FWIW, yes I scale it in the midrange too.

You're welcome, see u later.
