Oh my - that refrigerator looks almost familiar. My mother's husband repaired one in much the same way. He also upgraded the repairs by adding wood shelves to the interior. After noticing the reconstruction on my last visit I bought her a new fridge.
Piano is hard work from beginning to forever. Accept this as truth or risk a quick exit with tail between legs.

Oh, so much talent
Unrealistic expectations: Beethoven rondo op 51 no 1 Mozart Sonata No. 7 in C major Beethoven OP 27 No 1
Absolutely must do: Learn to sight read Learn music theory Re-learn ONE piece to at least almost perfection. (Mary had a little lamb?)

>How do you know that these were perpetrated by men? I might start a thread called 'women can cook anything' with loads of pictures of pathetic culinary attempts. Please go ahead and give me the link

I fix things the same way. My cushion on the bedroom chair is worn out. The foam is all flat. I just put 3 blankets on it to cushion it more.

Nobody noticed that the battery is about to blow up like a bomb? Just allow those two terminals to short.

Must have all been piano players..........just too busy practicing to be bothered with the mundane things like proper maintenance

Late to the wagon but thought it belonged here:
My scientist/researcher husband just offered to tune a piano for me.
He does not know anything about music. Or pianos.
Just research.
I mean, yes it's sweet and all but feel free to collectively shake your heads along w me.

I mean, yes it's sweet and all but feel free to collectively shake your heads along w me. Kudos to him for his well intentioned offer. I recently offered to fix my fiancee's washer. Two days and some skinned knuckles later I threw in the towel, actually I threw in several towels to mop up the water on her basement floor. Then we called in the experts. I learned how to tune and repair pianos from a professional who had attended the North Bennett Street Industrial school and apprenticed under other techs. While the premise of turning some tuning pins to adjust the pitch appears simple enough , it isn't. It takes years (and hundreds of pianos) to become proficient at hearing/counting the beats, finding the optimal stretch, setting the pins, etc. My recommendation to him would be to observe the professional you hire to tune your piano, and ask questions (not too many questions though or the charge for tuning will go up :-) All the Best, Frank Baxter Founder/Host/Owner Piano World PianoSupplies.com Maple Street Music Shop

Excellent recommendation from PianoWorld.
Also, I would like to say to The Dodo, just thank him with a big kiss and a hug, and then yes call an expert. My wife the scientist (too) also offered this once... I just replied "no worries baby, I won't take your time I got Fred (friend who actually knows this stuff) to help me out".
Fred is teaching me now...
