Hi all. I am new here! I am 16, and I have been playing piano for around 9 years.
My current piano is a 1905 Story and clark special built cabinet grand piano.
I shall start my story of my recent acquirement, by telling you of how I got to this piano.
I was surfing craigslist about 7-8 months ago, and I stumbled on something that seemed far too good to be true.
An 1855 Erard 6' grand about 5 miles from me. For $1,000 in original condition.
So I go see it and I fell in love with it! It was in excellent shape. Although the keys needed to be replaced, the piano was in near excellent condition mechanically. The soundboard did show very few cracks. But hey this piano is 155 years old!!!!
So we seem to have an agreement to buy the piano. I of course must sell my instruments to gain money.
So I sell my fully restored 1914 Krakauer 56" upright at an astonishingly low $600. I had it appraised locally for $10,000. But I need this erard right away!
I also needed to sell my organ. A 1968 Rodgers 22b 2m/32p full sized analog organ. I bought it for $1,500 the year before and I sold it for $400.
After all that.... I call the guy to arrange a time to have the movers come get it, and he decides that he didnt want to sell the piano... WHAT?!?!?! I just got a $11,000 loss, and I am left with nothing!?
Well I was very depressed after having to sell my beloved instruments. And thought i could never find something nice for $1,000
Well I did folks! I was going to buy this very ugly limeish white looking antique Mason and Hamlin upright. I did not like it because it didnt have much sound.
But I found this story and clark at another store just before i was going to buy that M&H. I instantly fell in love with it! It was the most ornate looking piano I have ever seen!
$500!!! I bought it later that day!
