I thought you might be interested in this bit of trivia from WQXR:

“12 Painists Choose The Piece of a Lifetime”

Alession Bax: Bach: Well-Tempered Clavier or Beethoven: 32 Piano Sonatas
Lucille Chung: Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, KV488, 2nd and 3rd movements
Aaron Diehl: Ellington: “Single Petal of a Rose”
Simone Dinnerstein: Bach: Goldberg Variations
Joel Fan: Barber: Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 26
Lara Downes: Ravel: Piano Concerto in G Major or Schumann: Fantasiestücke
Marc-André Hamelin: Schubert: Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, D.960
Angela Hewitt: Bach: Well-Tempered Clavier
Igor Levit: Beethoven: Diabelli Variations
Orli Shaham: Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat
Conrad Tao: Schumann: Kreisleriana
Daniil Trifonov: Schubert: Sonata in G Major, D.894

Do we all know all of these pianists?

Very interesting although Hewitt and, especially, Bax "semi-cheated". Trifonov's is especially interesting since I think he's played it quite recently in concert and, although a very great piece, it might not be on many other pianist's radar as the ultimate piece.

The only one I've never heard of is Diehl, but that's probably because he's a jazzer.....

But I'm surprised no-one chose "The Maiden's Prayer" as their lifetime piece wink . Everyone seemed to be playing it when I was a kid (except me......).

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."
