Hello my people, sure you are all doing great. I was called to inspect some pianos in the music department of one of the schools around here just yesterday, following which I would come up with a report which would inturn aid their next line of action. Having completed the inspection, I found out that one of the five (5) pianos inspected, a Yamaha G1, has been abandoned for too long and as such about ten(10) wound strings are bad(broken) and almost all the plain strings(not less than 20) are bad apart from the fact that they all have rusted.
My intention is to advice a total restringing of the piano but I am being faced with a challenge of dealing with a reliable company or supply house where such request can be directed and attended to in earnest(I am in Nigeria, in West Africa). I therefore would appreciate the good people on this platform to help out by way of either linking a reliable supply house or individuals whom I can deal with reliably. The piano is about 41years acording to the piano atlas dating.

Apart from the above discussed Yamaha, there is also a 106years old Bechstein Berling, upright with similar problem...I actually was thinking of advicing them to turn it to an historical object, it was acquired in 1927 as I was told by one of the people there....about 3 wound strings are gone while about 20 plain strings are broken besides the fact that the action is in its worst state with removed hammer, whippens, briddle tapes...etc the hammers are also badly grooved.
I will appreciate if people here would be of assistance just as I am sure they can.
I await professional advices and solutions.Thank you all.

Dear Israel,

From what you say about the condition of these pianos, I would seriously question whether they are worth attempting to work on. If they have been kept in conditions so bad that the strings have rusted and broken, it is very likely that there will be many other structural problems.

Thanks David, the yamaha has no seen/observeable structural problems apart from one of the legs that is broken. The soundboard still intact, the lyre, dampers need some repair works and body cleaning/polishing.The major area of concern is the strings which I think must have been badly affected by the changes in atmospheric condition, hence the rusting and breakages...the piano is not really old but not well taken care of.

Do you need full sets of bass strings, or individual strings?
